Review of A Fistful Of Dollars (Wide Screen) by name47

Advantages: original format
Disadvantages: letterbox size

The first proper spaghetti Western, A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS follows a nameless drifter who plays two feuding families off each other to his own reward. As members of each family are put in the ground, the stash in his pockets gets heavier and heavier. this violent remake of akira kurosawa's joyimbo made clint eastwood a star and not before time. this is one of leone's first outings as director, who later went on to direct the masterpiece once upon a ... one of the best
Review of For A Few Dollars More (Wide Screen) by slamdaduncan

Advantages: great movie, clint eastwood
Disadvantages: 15 certificate

Plenty of people I know who have watched the film disagree with me that it is one of the best western films made.I totally disagree this film sequels a fist full of dollars,of which is also one of the best around of its time. The sequel has been branded unneccesary and downgrades the 1st film but if the film had not been produced the first would not of had the same affect as it did. Clint Eastwood is at his peak in both the films and so is the ...
...i know that he is a star.the theme in both films is incredible and i am told that there are other films that have been based on the same theme to try and get money and more viewers but since the two fabulous westerns came out no film has continued with the success that they did. Altogether a great watch ... Read review

Do hero's really wear white hats?
Review of High Plains Drifter DVD by Blackcat01

Advantages: The perfect western
Disadvantages: none

High Plains Drifter is a classic western. It has a strong lead character who is the classic gunfighter, cold, emotionless and completely ruthless. It also has a strong supporting cast who again play the classic western towns people, scared, self promoting, submissive and equally ruthless in a passive way, all the classic ingredients. So why is this western so very different to anything else that came before it and after it? In the old days, westerns ...
...used to great effect with High Plains Drifter, however, he took it a stage further and made the audience enter nthe movie in a way unseen before. He made us think about the characters and make our own opinions about them, never more so than with his main character, the stranger, it was as though you were a person living in the town of Lago and like the townsfolk, you knew nothing about the stranger who came to the town other than what you saw. stranger in town
Review of High Plains Drifter DVD by nebcsa17th

Advantages: Good plot
Disadvantages: none

As a big Clint Eastwood fan i find that most people normally relate to him for his "Spaghetti westerns" or "Dirty Harry" films. I have lost count of the amount of times i have heard someone with a bad impression of him sayin "go ahed punk make my day" Eastwood though has many films to his credit both as actor and as director, quite often as both. "High plains drifter" (1973) is one of thoes many films. With his spaghetti westerns most people credit ...
...in in all three films he had a name. In "A fist full of dollars" his name was Joe, in "For a few dollars more" his name was Monco and finally in "The good the bad and the ugly" he was Blondie. For five decades Eastwood has made westerns, appealing to the current audience, but in only one was he the man with no name or the stranger and that was "High plaines Drifter" although the film does leave heavy clues to who he could have been once upon a time. ...
