Ridley + Indy + Sci-fi = Masterpiece
Review of Blade Runner (Final Cut) (Ultimate Collector's Edition) by mattb1983

Advantages: All versions of the film, tons of special features, a brilliant film
Disadvantages: None

...Meanwhile Rick Deckard, a Blade Runner (special police squads with the specific purpose of eliminating Replicants) is dispatched to steel and gray jungle of the 21st century. His job? "Retire" Nexus 6. Their crime? Wanting to be more human. The brilliance of Blade Runner stems from the fact that it presents a film, really, without any baddies. Even Nexus 6 and Roy Batty are not evil, they just want to survive. This is illustrated when Batty saves ...
...film, proving that Replicants may have a spark of humanity in them after all. And with the ambivalent ending (Could Deckard be a Replicant himself?) we get two sides to a story that can never be fully wrapped up. Harrison Ford is great as Rick Deckard in probably the most un-realized role of his career. Though it is Rutger Hauer, as Replicant Roy Batty who utterly dominates the film. From ad-libbing a large portion of Batty's line's, to turning ... Read review

It's Too Bad She Wont Live, But Then Who Does?
Review of Blade Runner (Final Cut) (Ultimate Collector's Limited Edition) by sghawken

Advantages: Great value boxset of a sensational movie
Disadvantages: the versions are very similar.

...this category it's the new Blade Runner: Final Cut box set, the most beautiful and feature packed box set that I have ever seen. With a sale price of between £17.99 to £24.99, which ever end of that price bracket you purchase the box set at it's worth your money. Blade Runner was first released in 1982, it was both a success and a failure. It failed to achieve the desired audience that the movie needed to be a box office success, but the movie generated ...
...that its 25 years old. Blade Runner has been re-released four times in the UK alone, the first two in its original form, in 1992 to celebrate the films 10th anniversary the film was re-released in an all new Directors Cut. Then 25 years after it was first released after 7 years of hard work by Ridley Scott the movies director Blade Runner: The Final Cut hit cinemas across the world. With new scenes, extensive reworking of special effects, and remastering ... Read review

Review of Dune (Special Edition) by sghawken

Advantages: Epic Sci-Fi spectacular
Disadvantages: Poorly received, some naff special effects

...transform Frank Herbert's epic novel Dune into a movie. This grandiose movie looks as epic as Star Wars, but has something dirtier, menacing and almost sadomasochistic about it. Set in the year 10991 Padishah Emperor Shaddam IV (Jose Ferrer) feels threatened; one of his servant races (Atreides) is developing a power that can cripple simply by vocal ability. Choosing not to trust House Atreides he sends them to the planet Arrakis to mine for a rare ...
...first thing you notice about Dune is the way it looks, there is something very Russian about its design, not just in its uniform but in its impressive structures and settings. The House Atreides are the most traditionally dressed of all the races you encounter during the movie their uniforms all black, with coloured lapels and sashes to register their importance amongst their legion of soldiers; varying levels of the Atreides also have some very ... Future Noir!
Review of Blade Runner (Director's Cut) by clownfoot

Advantages: Greatest sci-fi movie of all time. Need I say more?
Disadvantages: Slow pacing and thoughtful qualities may be a little tiresome for some.

BLADE RUNNER Blighted by an arduous shoot that led to t-shirt wars between an unsympathetic American crew and its English director; a frosty relationship with Tandem pictures; a considerable misjudgement in releasing the film with a dour voice over narration and happy ending following mediocre preview sneaks in Denver and Dallas; and the fact it followed on the boot heels of Spielberg's wonderful ET, you would think it amazing that Blade Runner ...
...screens 10 years later. However, Blade Runner isn't just any other film. The opening shot alone defines the movie as something rather special, even if to admire simply as a piece of art. But there was always much more boiling under the 'layered' surface - something the critics didn't originally catch on - which has since proved that Blade Runner is perhaps the greatest science fiction movie ever made. Thank the monkey lords for sci-fi geeks and VHS, ... Read review

Ok I'm biased
Review of Dune (Special Edition) by Anime_Raider

Advantages: An awesome epic
Disadvantages: can be a little dull

Since first entering the Dune universe I hav read every book available to date, watched both mini-series and played every game I could get my hands on... It still doesn't compare to the actual awe I feltwatching this film properly for the first time. Ok, it doesn't stick that closely to the original story (unlike the later adaptation by the sci-fi channel) and the earlier DVD edition had an odd green tone but this is IT, the reason I am now obsesive ...
...like one of the new LOTR inspired epics, a little stodgy and tough to get into, kind of like the books, if you don't have patience and you don't like this kind of thing don't watch it. If you do then it is a deffinate must, its as memorable as any film I've seen (after the first viewing I had already memorised the opening speech) and more memorable than most. Although the storyline wavers from the books it is still engrossing. Unfortunately the ... Read review
