Better than Buffy?
Review of Angel - Series 1 - Complete DVD by
ragamuffin2005
Advantages: more adult than buffy, characters are great, most episodes are good
Disadvantages: perhaps too many stand alone episodes
...Well the first season of angel is definately better than the first season of Buffy for sure (hated it!). Angel was created by Buffy creator Joss Whedon and Buffy Writer/Producer David Greenwalt. The show takes a more adult and darker tone than Buffy, and perhaps aims to get more adults into the Buffyverse. This Season of Angel is in short very good and here is why.
*Season 1*
Many Angel fans do not like this series as much as the others, perhaps ... ...myself being a very big angel fan disagree with this viewpoint. Granted the season does not have a great story arc compared to the other seasons, however the stand-alone episodes are great and define exactly what Angel is about, helping the helpless!. The season opener is great (City of). This episode basically introduces you to the show and to the three main characters, Angel- the vampire with a soul, Cordelia- the spoilt brat from Buffy joins the ...

1984 with guns!
Review of Equilibrium DVD by
sumara
Advantages: Action, guns, romance and thrills, something for all.
Disadvantages: Not the first time we've seen the premise or the 'twists'
If you've ever read George Orwells' 1984 this is the new spin that you've been looking for. Although it's not a remake is does hark back to the same ideas of control. After yet another devestating World War the powers that be decide to do the only thing they know how and create a 'Big Brother' state to control and outlaw human emotion - the cause for societies downfall. The Gramaton Cleric enforce this way of life with the help of Prozium, a chemical ...

Equlibrium (Movie only)
Review of Equilibrium DVD by
iamasadlittleboy
Advantages: Bale *drools*, Gun-kata
Disadvantages: No huge explosions or time travelling
Personal Background:
After hearing great things about the fight scenes in this movie I finally decided to actually you know, buy the damn thing rather than get told it was like a better version of the Matrix (which if truth be told, I loathed almost as much as I hate having water in my shoes whilst walking around the permanantley wet town of Paisley). Finally seeing this for 99p (bargain or what?) I thought right, I'll shut Andrew up and tell him ... ...gash that at the time that West Ham United had been playing (both being huge football fans, that would have managed to make sense). However seeing the always sexy brooding and scarily handsome Christian Bale on the cover not only made me think "Hey this could well be one of those amazing films" but also made me question my sexuality...but lets stay away from that.
The Story:
The movie is set in a post WWIII era where to stop any more mass destruction ...

I'm Your Daddy
Review of Farscape - Season 3 - Vol. 2 DVD by
Frankingsteins
Advantages: Launch into the show's finest plot arcs, experimenting with genres.
Disadvantages: Division of the cast has inevitable repercussions.
...behind the Jim Henson Company's Farscape always enjoyed putting the characters through hell, from John Crichton's first tumble down a wormhole dumping him in a distant corner of the universe to his increasingly problematic relationship with Aeryn Sun. It's with the sixth episode of season three, a deceptively simple zombie horror adventure entitled 'Eat Me,' that this relationship takes a very drastic fork, while the separation of Moya's crew in ... ...portion of the season.
Farscape was never comfortable inside the boundaries of predictable television, simultaneously a reason for its creative genius and its ultimate cancellation for encouraging its own obscurity, and the splitting ('twinning') of protagonist John Crichton, without a convenient death before the end credits to return the status quo, is one of the iconic moments of the entire series. Even without this perfect ending, the episode ...
