Instead it plays out as more of a muted caper where Irving has to go to increasingly ridiculous lengths to stay ahead of the game. I've just finished watching House Series 1 on DVD, having come to this series late in the day. Each episode is like a self contained medical detective story. House is a great character, irascible and difficult to work with but forgiven for this because of his great intelligence and snippets of compassion that peek through.
