Closer - A moral tale?
Review of Closer DVD by shanediablo

Advantages: Intellectual, Compelling
Disadvantages: Hardly cheery

It was early 2005 and I was bored so decided to go to the cinema and had no idea what to watch. 'Closer' was a film that I did not feel entirely enthused about going to see but I was sure that the star power would see me through it. The film is essentially a tale of four people intertwined by their own confusion as to who it is that they love or lust after. Dan (Jude Law) is a smart journalist (well, obituary writer) who is in a relationship with ...
...desire for enigmatic photographer Anna (Julia Roberts). Anna is torn between aforementioned Dan and the very much rough and ready doctor Larry (Clive Owen). The pitch sounds cheesy and terrible. Sounds like a typical 'we've got no clue what we are filing but lets stick a load of HUGE stars in it and we've got a guaranteed box office hit' and this is how I feared it would turn out. What seems to keep interweaving the characters and their own respective ... Read review

Close up and confusing!
Review of Closer DVD by kingfisher111

Advantages: strong actors
Disadvantages: bleak, depressing and meandering storyline

I didn't see Closer at the cinema, but being quite a big fan of both Julia Roberts and Jude Law I was quite keen to get it and watch it on DVD. Having done so, I have to say that it seemed quite a strange film and not overly enjoyable although it does have it's fascinating moments. There are only four characters in the film which in itself seems quite a strange thing. There is no supporting cast of interesting characters to bring lighter moments ...
...Although I watched it on DVD there are not really any additional features to speak of - just the usual screen selections and choice of languages. If I haven't put you off entirely, youmight be interested to know that Closer is currently selling on mazon for only £4.98. ... Read review

2 great films to watch over and over!
Review of Moulin Rouge / Romeo And Juliet (Double Pack) (Wide Screen) by rlfcuk

Advantages: 2 fantastic dvds in a set!
Disadvantages: Would get more extra features if bought seperately.

...electricity, you're left feeling breathless. Moulin Rouge is a beautiful story, with a great cast, vibrant settings, and memorable songs. Nicole Kidman really shines in this character. I admit I had to watch it a few times to understand the story completely, as there is so much going on you can get distracted! But after watching a few times over, I really appreciated what a classic love story it tells and still end up in tears at the end! Romeo ...
...play. Although the actors still speak the sames words from the written story, it is set in modern times. I watched this many times whilst doing my GCSE's and it helped me understand the text. I found it quite amazing that although Shakespeare wrote the play many centuries ago, the message is still relevant in todays times. I think both of these films are must for anyone who likes love stories, music, good acting, and most importantly, great movies! ... Read review

Romeo And Juliet (Valentines Edition)
Review of Romeo And Juliet (Valentine's Edition) by samanthajane

Advantages: Breathtaking
Disadvantages: Not everyone will understand it

...beautiful.Everyone knows the story of Romeo And Juliet dont they but this is set in modern day which adds to the drama.I find this the best version of the story i have seen but it is a case of love it or hate it as the old english for some people is hard to keep up with. The action moves very quick but it is not brain numbing. The famous suicide scene will have even the machoist of men crying. The soundtrack is very good, very modern and the acting is ...
