SCARFACE (1932) [FILM ONLY REVIEW]
Review of Scarface DVD by
Charles_Strickland
Advantages: Groundbreaking
Disadvantages: None
...Capone as Tony Camonte, Hawks' SCARFACE is undisputedly aged in comparison with Brian De Palma's brilliant-but-less-historically-and-artistically-important remake of the 80s, although with a ferocious lead performance from master actor Paul Muni, who Al Capone so identified with it's said he made himself a copy of the film, and with a bloody finale, it still maintains a brutal violence (no less than 28 killings have been recorded throughout the film) ...

The Infamous Film That Was Banned in UK for 30 Yrs
Review of Freaks DVD by
eve6kicksass
Advantages: One of the strangest, yet oddly endearing, cult films of all time
Disadvantages: You be the judge; I couldn't find any.
...If, perchance, one of these freaks of nature survived, he was always regarded with suspicion. Society shunned him because of his deformity, and a family so hampered was always ashamed of the curse put upon it. "Occasionally, one of these unfortunates was taken to court to be jeered at or ridiculed for the amusement of the nobles. Others were left to eke out a living by begging, stealing, or starving; for the law of beauty is a deep seated urge which ... ...true. The 1932 film FREAKS is, if any thing, very authentic in showing not only the individuals themselves but also what life was like behind the scenes; for many of them, this would be the only time they were able to get onscreen. The roots of FREAKS originated in a short story called "Spurs" which is actually a much more darker story than what appears in the final product; Browning had worked a lot were Lon Chaney, Sr. ("The Man of a Thousand Faces") ...

Cheerio Arms
Review of A Farewell To Arms DVD by
Phelthew
Advantages: You don't have arms anymore
Disadvantages: Why would you to start with? You drive a frickin ambulance
So A Farewell to Arms. I bought this DVD to further my research for ENglish Literature and paid bout 99p for it. It's your typical "Ooooh I love you darling"
"Ooooh I love you too darling" Kind of story that dominated the golden era of Hollywood. It's nice enough in that manner. You're Grannie would enjoy it (that's who I offloaded my copy too after I watched it) As for the book/film interaction. The book is, as they generally are, better. The book ... ...romance. The book is also a bit more exciting. The film misses out the interesting parts were the two Ambulance men run away and it makes the Italian doctor out to be the bad guy. I mean he was the best character in the novel. He was so easy going he didn't even care when Frederick stole his girlfriend.Plus he called everyone baby. But in this one we see him conspiring against Henry. Bloody hollywood.
One question that bugs me when I read A Farewell ...

a good film, with good acting
Review of In Her Shoes DVD by
nicnncha
Advantages: good story, good acting, believable
Disadvantages: dragged at the start
I went to see this in the cinema when it came out, and it i have to say i wasnt too sure i liked it when i came out of the cinema. It was quite a serious type of comedy, which i wasnt expecting. I rewatched it last night though, and have to say i prefered it second time round. It was about 2 sisters who are completely different, one is played by toni collette and shes sensible and hasnt alot of confidence in herself, shes not very successful with ... ...her ruin her sisters life in the beginning of the movie. She doesnt have alot of thought for others, especially her poor sister who does everything for her. After months apart, Cameron Diaz's character maggie, takes stock of her life and then goes on to sort herself out, and she becomes a much nicer indidivual. You see her become more sensible and alot more caring and her transformation is great and i really did like the new maggie. You acting is ...

Empire of the Sun!
Review of Empire Of The Sun (Special Edition) by
danmclovin
Advantages: Beautiful, Heartwarming!
Disadvantages: None!
Released in 1988, Empire of the Sun is a brilliant epic movie set during the second world war. Directed by Steven Spielberg, the movie introduced a very young Christian Bale to the silver screen, who we all know by now has gone on to become a household name.
The movie is set around the Japanese invasion of China, during the second world war. Jamie Graham (Christian Bale), a precocious and priviledged young boy, and his parents are forced to flee ... ...to the invasion. Amid the mayhem of the escape, Jamie is separated from his parents, and returns to his old house in hope that they will return there to be re-united. As the days and weeks go by, with no sign of his parents returning, and with every last scrap of food having been consumed, Jamie is forced onto the streets of Shanghai, where he is rescued and taken in by two Americans, Basie (John Malkovich) and Frank (Joe Pantoliano).
Basie and ...
