Screwball Scramble
Review of Leatherheads DVD by
afy9mab
Advantages: A strong directorial vision, lots of snappy banter and plenty of laughs.
Disadvantages: Zellweger's performance is superficial.
Dodge Connelly is an ageing American football player in the fledgling professional sport during the 1920s. When his team loses their sponsor and the league is on the verge of collapse, Dodge convinces college football star Carter Rutherford to join their ranks. He hopes it will revive interest in the sport. Carter is a handsome, decorated war hero, but ambitious reporter Lexie Littleton is determined to prove he's too good to be true. While she digs ... ...And as the professional game becomes less of a brawl and more of a heavily regulated sport, Dodge has to try to keep the team together and win the girl of his dreams.
As a director, George Clooney approaches many subjects but all the films he makes are based in the past and are tinged with a sense of nostalgia. It's as though he's addicted to old Hollywood glamour. This one is no different. The movie is very evocative and has a strong sense of time ...

Ultimate chick flick back to back box set
Review of Bridget Jones's Diary/Bridget Jones - The Edge Of Reason/The Holiday (Box Set) by
ferrismu
Advantages: 3 fantastic movies, all at once!!
Disadvantages: None... but you may end up resembling Bridget.
...a very happy lady.
Bridget Jones' Diary is an essential watch for chick flick fans. It is the original and best of it's type - there have been many copies but none as good. Everything about it is just wonderful - not least the ridiculously satisfying eye candy of both Hugh Grant AND Mr. Colin Firth. Great one liners and reassurance that maybe, just maybe, your Mr Darcy is around the corner... (Yeah right!). And where BJ2 could have gone horribly ... ...because my flatmate and I watched the three films back to back on New Years Day, pyjamas on, sofa and blankets, ice cream and pizza at the ready. Perfect!! The only downside was when our hot neighbour popped round and caught us in the full Bridget Jones-style act. Oh well... ...

'SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!' Jerry Maguire
Review of Jerry Maguire DVD by
pmcds
Advantages: Cameron Crowe knows what the audience wants, the cast deliver it
Disadvantages: A little too much cheese
...1996, director Cameron Crowe's film Jerry Maguire hit the screens, with the tagline 'Everybody Loved Him ... Everybody Disappeared'. It was nominated for 5 Oscars and is the story of ethics and 'doing the right thing', using the high-powerd financial world of professional sports in the US. It won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
The Plot
Jerry Maguire is the most admired sports agent in the business. Working for the company Sports Management ... ...Boyd, and Dorothy's son Ray, Jerry starts to rebuild his life and reputation.
The Cast and Performances
Tom Cruise is the title role, and performs admirably in two senses. Firstly, as the smug top of the pile sports agent while he is with Sports Management International, then secondly the desperate down on his luck guy who is a tiny fraction of his former self. Renee Zellweger plays love interest Dorothy Boyd with subtle coyness, and Jonathan Lipnicki ...

Double Bridget Jones
Review of Bridget Jones's Diary/Bridget Jones - The Edge Of Reason DVD by
DixieChick10
Advantages: 1st films good.
Disadvantages: 2nd film's not so good.
...read/watch over all. Bridget Jones's Diary 1: This film starts off with a 30 something Bridget going to her parents house (which is set near where I live) and her talking about her life in a narrated form. Bridget played by the wonderful Renee Zellweger is set up again by her mother, but this year it happends to be the hot Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) wearing a terrible jumper his mother gave him. He says something horrible like "Epesially not someone ... ...without getting bored. Bridget Jones Diary: The Edge Of Reason
Unlike the first film I was really disapointed with the second film. I has read the book and loved it, it's so much better than the first book but they took too much out of the film. I also think Renee Zellwegers accent gets worse in this second film, it actually sounds fake, plus there is too many soppy moments in the film that are not in the book, the scene at the start is terrible. ...
