Review of Monty Python's Life Of Brian DVD by Suzela

Advantages: A hilariously funny film
Disadvantages: Some might still find it offensive

...first time I ever saw Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979) was when Channel 4 showed it as part of their banned season when I was at school (it would have been late 80s/early 90s). I sneaked a video tape in to the machine to record it as coming from a very Christian family I didn't want to upset anyone but I really wanted to see what all the fuss was about and if this film really did contain all the blasphemous content that had earned it a ban. Imagine ...
...Unlike their previous film Monty Python and The Holy Grail where each of the main characters has a section of the film to themselves, this film follows events and scenes which either include or directly involve Brian and it is this focus on the central character that stops this film from becoming a series of silly/funny episodes. The scenes and scenarios are beautifully crafted with the majority of the humour coming from exaggerations of everyday ... Read review

Very Silly... but very funny
Review of And Now For Something Completely Different DVD by orionmoo

Advantages: Very silly
Disadvantages: Very silly

And now for something completely different. A very silly film. It is silly, but it is funny. It's a Monty Python film! I havn't seen all of the episodes of the Flying Circus, and apparently, alot of the scenes in this film are taken from the Flying Circus. So with this you can see two shows in one! Incase you didn't know, Monty Python's Flying Circus is a show that was on TV some decades ago. It consisted of comedy sketches and crazy cartoons made ...
...Jones, Terry Gilliam and Graham Chapman. This film consistes of some of the best sketches and cartoons from the series including the Dead Parrot Sketch, Twit of the Year, The Funniest Joke in the World, Hell's Grannies and the Lumberjack Song and many, many more! Any fan of the Pythons or just British humour in general will love this, the first more so, although lots of the sketches are abit OTT with the sillyness, imo. So if you don't like silly ... What a palaver
Review of Carry On Regardless (Wide Screen) by grafter123

Advantages: Classic comedy, funny, silly and daft in parts, fun, family friendly
Disadvantages: Dated at times and black and white

Carry On Regardless is one of the earlier Carry On films and as such is a black and white offering. Like them or loathe them the phrase Carry On has become part of our language, as well as plainly representing this series of farcical comedy films. Carry On Regardless was released in 1961 and, to my mind, is Carry On at it's very best. I always thought that this film was the first but it is actually the fifth film out of the twenty nine made. The ...
...nicely in this film. The Carry on team are a group of unemployed men and women who are struggling to find work. Being unable to, they decide to team up and set up an agency called Helping Hands. This firm will supply the perfect person for most jobs, matching the temp with suitable work. Of course it all goes terribly wrong, especially when a muddle with the allocation cards sees the strangest matches with each job. Small Spoiler******** Here are ... Read review

Do you like it up the Khyber?
Review of Carry On Up The Khyber (Special Edition) by ian4552

Advantages: One of the best loved of the carry on films
Disadvantages: Some of the saucy seaside humour seems dated

...favourite films of all time. Carry on up the Khyber is one of the best loved of the "Historical" Carry ons. It is also a film that will have me laughing no matter how bad a day ive had. Beleve it or not this film also includes the only time, in a carry on film, that any filming was done outside of pinewood studios. The Khyber Pass. No they didnt go to India. That was actually shot in Snowdonia. ------------ The Plot ------------ India,1895 and ...
...Rogers, The Producer of the Carry on Films and Carry on Historian, Robert Ross. Talk about the making of the film and dispells some of the myths that have grown up about the film. Interesting, but Peters very slow speech I found somewhat annoying Stills Gallery: A selection of still that were taken whilst filming. Again not a lot i can say about this. Carry on Laughing. The Sobbing Cavalier: A half hour programme from the Carry on Laughing series. ... Read review

Carry On To Ellsbells
Review of Carry On Abroad (Special Edition) (Wide Screen) by IanPhillips

Advantages: Is one of the best Carry On's
Disadvantages: None as such

Carry On Abroad truly encapsulates the feel-good spirit that made the films such an enduring success. Nearly all of the teams favourite regulars are here as well as some extra additions to the cast line-up. The usual batch of players that are present and clearly on good form are Sid James, Joan Sims, Kenneth Williams, Peter Butterworth, Charles Hawtrey, Babara Windsor, Hattie Jaques, Kenneth Connor and Bernard Bresslaw and are joined by Scottish ...
...the best endings in a Carry On film, firmly holding onto that fine, feel-good spirit which would slowly dissolve from here on. The cast are all on usual form, though Peter Butterworth and Hattie Jaques are perharps the best players here. They make an almost Laurel and Hardy kind of duo and Jaques in particular is an unusual role, playing a Spanish, downtrodden and seemingly demented cook. The rest of the cast certainly get their moments including ... Read review
