Very Silly... but very funny
Review of And Now For Something Completely Different DVD by
orionmoo
Advantages: Very silly
Disadvantages: Very silly
And now for something completely different. A very silly film. It is silly, but it is funny. It's a Monty Python film!
I havn't seen all of the episodes of the Flying Circus, and apparently, alot of the scenes in this film are taken from the Flying Circus. So with this you can see two shows in one! Incase you didn't know, Monty Python's Flying Circus is a show that was on TV some decades ago. It consisted of comedy sketches and crazy cartoons made ... ...Jones, Terry Gilliam and Graham Chapman.
This film consistes of some of the best sketches and cartoons from the series including the Dead Parrot Sketch, Twit of the Year, The Funniest Joke in the World, Hell's Grannies and the Lumberjack Song and many, many more!
Any fan of the Pythons or just British humour in general will love this, the first more so, although lots of the sketches are abit OTT with the sillyness, imo. So if you don't like silly ...

Nuns and money!
Review of Nuns On The Run DVD by
kelly1703
Advantages: You'll be laughing all the way through
Disadvantages: You'll only want to watch it occassionally
Anything starring Robbie Coltrane and Eric Idle was bound to be funny anyway. But the hilarious timing and excellent jokes add to the stars performances and whoevers idea it was to team the pair up deserves a medal!
Eric and Robbie play a couple of small time criminals who decide one day to rip off some much bigger thugs and nick off with their money from a big job. This forces them to go into hiding..yes you guessed it..in a nunery!
Thus proceeds ... ...escape without the mother superior noticing all while dressed as a nun themselves (although very manly looking nuns!)
They also end up teaching young girls about religion etc and finding some morals along the way themselves.
It gets a bit soppy at points with Idle having a love intrest but this storyline also brings some comedy to the film and helps to beef up the story line a bit.
I personally love the way the film uses visual humour as well ...

Romanes eunt domus! and other such phrases
Review of Monty Python's Life Of Brian DVD by
Suzela
Advantages: A hilariously funny film
Disadvantages: Some might still find it offensive
...first time I ever saw Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979) was when Channel 4 showed it as part of their banned season when I was at school (it would have been late 80s/early 90s). I sneaked a video tape in to the machine to record it as coming from a very Christian family I didn't want to upset anyone but I really wanted to see what all the fuss was about and if this film really did contain all the blasphemous content that had earned it a ban. Imagine ... ...Unlike their previous film Monty Python and The Holy Grail where each of the main characters has a section of the film to themselves, this film follows events and scenes which either include or directly involve Brian and it is this focus on the central character that stops this film from becoming a series of silly/funny episodes. The scenes and scenarios are beautifully crafted with the majority of the humour coming from exaggerations of everyday ...

Great film, terrible DVD
Review of Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life DVD by
OddGodHMK
Advantages: Best Monty Python film ever
Disadvantages: DVD include absolutely no extra features
This was the first Monty Python movie I ever saw, years after my dad told me about the hilarious scene involving Mr. Creosote, and it remains my favourite Monty Python film. However, the DVD is the worst Monty Python DVD I have.
~~~ The Film ~~~
This review is mainly concentrated on the DVD, but I will include this section specifically on the film. The film itself is about life, so goes through stages of life, presented in parts until the meaning ... ...It's also the last Monty Python film, which is definitely unfortunate as they were only getting better and better.
I think the main reason this film is my favourite is the fact it does not stay on one person or general topic. It feels quite random as it moves through life, from birth to life in school, and onwards through things such as the 'autumn years' and finally death and a visit to the afterlife. The cast, as usual, are naturally funny, adding ...
A Good Laugh At Life
Review of Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life DVD by
dreamscancometrue
Advantages: British humour at its best
Disadvantages: none
...Meaning Of life.
The Monty Python team, are up to their usual anarchic antics in this look at life from beginning to end, in a fashion that only Monty Python can.
Not so much a movie as The Life of Brian, or The Holy Grail, its more of a series of hilarious sketches, portraying people in everyday life situations, from the moments of conception, (The Sacred Sperm Sketch) is on of the best of the entire film, to a final meeting with the Grim Reaper, ... ...this hilarious last full length Monty Python movie. Laughs abound from the usual team of:- John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin and Graham Chapman .
All in all a real good piece of British humour at its best.
Running time 86 minutes.
I've only hired the DVD so this is a film only review.
But a quick look on its availability over the internet, shows it is readily available from many outlets at varied prices ...
