The Big Yin at his best
Review of Billy Connolly - World Tour Of Australia (Box Set) by
belfin
Advantages: Fantastic comedy as well as beautiful scenery of Australia
Disadvantages: Not so good if you dislike swearing
...been a big fan of Billy Connolly and remember a time when he was very rarely on tv because of all the bleeps involved. Today of course swearing isn't such an outlawed thing anymore and whether that's good or bad it certainly allows us to enjoy this BBC1 series following Billy as he tours Australia and introduces us to many delightful characters and interesting facts along the way. For this isn't just about his shows - far from it.
Born in Glasgow ... ...20 minutes is the way Billy manages to get people to talk to him about traditions, town histories and their life experiences. He shows genuine interest and intrigue about different customs and arts from his experiences with the Tiwi Aborigines where he joins them in eating mangrove worms to his talks to a bushman about his life in the outback. Travelling round on his brilliant Harley Davidson trike which has become a bit of a trademark for Billy ...

Billy's back.....and in the buff!
Review of Billy Connolly - World Tour Of New Zealand DVD by
chilipepper27
Advantages: Really funny and packed full of interesting places.
Disadvantages: None
...are already a fan of Billy Connolly then you will love this 2 disc DVD of his 'too old to die young' tour which was actually the first leg of his tour filmed in 2004 and the fourth part of his World tour. (The other 3 parts of his world tour are of Scotland, which was the first and filmed in 1994 with a 6 episodes. The second was a fabulous tour of Australia, with 8 episodes and was filmed in 1996. And the third was England, Ireland and Wales - filmed ... ...city in the world), where Billy dons a leather jacket (complete with 'too old to die young' and a picture of a skull wearing glasses on the back!) Gets on his Harley Davidson trike and sets off on his amazing journey. Along the way there's laughter (lot's of laughter!), fascinating insights into the cultures, people, Maori traditions, fantastic scenery, and wonderful stories from across the Country. With live shows mixed in with exploration and tales ...

Billy Connolly's amazing World Tour Of Scotland!
Review of Billy Connolly - World Tour Of Scotland DVD by
Chrishutchy
Advantages: On of his best World tour
Disadvantages: No extras
Billy Connolly has made 4 world tours in his time and this one may be the best of them all. This World tour of Scotland box set chronicles Billy's 40 date concert tour and his own appreciation of his home country through the eyes of this country's best comedian. Billy takes us all through his favourite parts of his home country showing us all the hidden gems of the historic country. We see the urban hustle and bustle of major cites such as Glasgow ... ...Scotland and its highlands. Plus as he travels the length and breadth of his native country he re-visits old places and discovers new ones. I think this part of his tour may bore people and they might just want the comedy but I think if those people really listen and watch what's happening they will learn about the beauty of the world and how different each country can be from the one they live in.
In addiction to Billy's tour of outer Scotland ...

BEING DEAD HAS NEVER BEEN THIS MUCH FUN
Review of Dead Like Me - Series 1 (Box Set) by
Pmshack99
Advantages: great cast and acting, great concept
Disadvantages: finished after two series
George: So, what's next? Onward and upward? Rube: "Onward", not "upward". No pearly gates for you. No choirs of angels, either. George: You dick! You're sendin' me to hell? *****WHAT IS "DEAD LIKE ME"?*****
It must suck being killed when you're only eighteen and have done precisely nothing with your life up until that moment. It must suck further when your killer is a flaming toilet seat falling from space. And that you need to suffer the indignity ... ...Seat Girl" by your fellow undead.
This is exactly what has happened to Georgia Lass in the show "Dead Like Me" - George (Ellen Muth) is a college drop out who is forced to take a temp job and is killed in her first 35 minute "lunch hour". Seconds later she is outside the remains of her body, watching the onlookers horror at what has just happened, and being led away by the only person who seems to be able to see her, a guarded man named Rube. She ...

All hail the Marx Brothers
Review of The Marx Brothers Collection DVD by
alvy_singer
Advantages: Wisecracks, chaos and laughter
Disadvantages: A little too dated for some people
The Marx Brothers were the original punks. The anti-heros. The rebels. My Heroes. Nobody can deliver a line with as much wit as Groucho. Nobody can act so dumb yet be so streetwise as Chico, and nobody can cause as much havoc as Harpo. I remember back to primary school, when i was aged 10. We were told to name our heroes. My friend lifted his hand and called out Bart Simpson. Some other kid said the Thundercats, and someone else said Jesus. A bit ... ...was thinking of only one, the master, Groucho Marx.
I was introduced at a young age to the Marx Brothers through films such as Love Happy, Monkey Business, Day At The Races and Horse Feathers. I've never been quite able to shrug off their influence on me. They were the outsiders, they were the underdogs. I know I can be who I want to be, because being different is better.
Harpo, Chico, Zeppo and Groucho were the Marx Brothers (Gummo, a fifth brother, ...
