The Darker Knight
Review of The Dark Knight DVD by sghawken

Advantages: Chilling to the core
Disadvantages: Some underused characters

...first hit cinema screens across the globe, and now as I write this The Dark Knight takes the story on a seamless transition from one movie to the other. 2008's most anticipated movie would have been a blockbuster hit alone, but the death of one of the co-stars Heath Ledger an icon of our time solidified its place in history; when The Dark Knight opened a week ago in America it smashed box office record by achieving a whooping turnover of 67 million ...
...the already dark Batman Begins we were told The Joker was coming, and as The Dark Knight begins you're very well reminded of this, but now no longer just coming, The Joker is here. This time history does not repeat itself, from the old Adam West movies and TV shows to the 1989 movie The Joker onscreen has always provided amusement, that journey stops here. If you are expecting laughs from Heath Ledger's Joker be prepared for a nasty shock, and if ... Read review

The Dark Knight´s Tale
Review of The Dark Knight DVD by Puggers

Advantages: Excellent performances, chiefly from Ledger.
Disadvantages: Final third could have been a film in its own right.

With the passing of Heath Ledger in January of this year, there was always going to be an unusual kind of interest in this film, the sequel to 2005´s Batman Begins. As much as audiences are keen to see if director Christopher Nolan´s follow-up is as strong and hard-hitting as its predecessor, there´s also the inevitable semi-morbid curiousity that comes in seeing a well-known actor´s last role, especially so soon after his death. I´ve never been ...
...Here, though, he excels. While the film is good, Ledger is great - if an actor could choose a level of performance to go out on, this would be it. At the end of Batman Begins, Lieutenant Gordon (reappearing in this film, Gary Oldman) alludes to a villain at large in Gotham City whom Batman (Christian Bale) promises to track down. This villain, Ledger´s Joker, is Batman´s principal nemesis in Dark Knight, reprising the conflict last shown nearly ... Read review

You're gonna love this, baby
Review of Sin City (Collector's Edition) by shister_not

Advantages: A great storyline, fantastic acting and a plethora of special features
Disadvantages: Some may find it a bit too violent

...Marley Shelton based on the Sin City short story, The Customer is Always Right. The soft wind instruments and dark setting establish the tone for the rest of the film. The audience hears beautiful dialogue brought to a close by a gunshot. This close relationship between beauty and death reflects the world in which the film takes place, a world where violence and socially unacceptable behaviour is the norm. . Sin City, with its film noir style is ...
...years. This may be because Sin City is unlike most well known comics. The main protagonists do not take on the role of traditional heroes, it can be argued that no character is particularly good but this does not stop them from being liked by the audience. One could argue that they fit Aristotle's criteria of a 'tragic hero', people not necessarily good, nor necessarily bad. Sin City is truer to its original medium the most adaptations to the point ... Nice Jacket
Review of Sin City DVD by nathaninnit

Advantages: Very well produced
Disadvantages: One-watch movie

...the BBC2 premiere of 2005's Sin City tonight with no aspirations for what the film should be like or for what the storyline should be, infact the only thing I knew about the film was that it was a pretty big deal and featured a very artistic taste of cinematography that I didn't think I would take to.. but more on that later on. I felt that the amount of promotion going into this premiere, and the fact that it couldn't make it on to a lot on BBC1 ...
...for the movie, however giving Sin City a chance I soon realised that this introduction had no baring on the rest of the movie. I soon realised that Sin City was actually a bunch of little stories set on a popular comic book series by Frank Miller that have of course been brought to the big screen by Quentin Tarantino. I think it would be very easy for someone to bring a comic book to the big screen and completely avoid bringing in any aspects of ... Read review

What a film!!!!!!!!
Review of Sin City DVD by nathan_jones69247

Advantages: great watch
Disadvantages: very dark

An absolutely great movie. This movie was awesome from the word go. It's got a very atmospheric feel and all the characters in the film are great. The film is made up of a few short stories kinda like pulp fiction. It's a very graphic and violent movie based on the underworld and its comic book picturisation creates a great atmosphere. Micky Rourke in my opinion give the best performance of his career, even though he was only in it for around 30 ... Read review
