Who said romance was dead?
Review of True Romance (Director's Cut) (Wide Screen) by Boothegoose

Advantages: Original, fast paced, a multitude of stars
Disadvantages: Too violent, swearing

True Romance is a fantastic film which boasts an all-star cast including the likes of Christopher Walken, Christian Slater, Dennis Hopper, Gary Oldman amongst others and the film is filled with such colourful characters and indeed dialogue which provides a somewhat memorable movie. The plot is that Chrisitan Slater is an affable and well-meaning comic book clerk who goes out on a date with a hooker, played by Patricia Arquette, and they both fall ...
...chemistry between the two stars in the film, and they set out on a wild road trip after Slater kills Drexyl, Arquette's former pimp and coming into possession of some narcotics owned by the Mob. Oldman hams it superbly as the somewhat larger than life and colourful pimp and rarely has there been such a character in a film who is so obnoxious, so unbelievably vile with no redeeming characteristics whatsoever that we cannot help but cheer when he meets ... Review of Xena - Warrior Princess - Series 1-6 - Complete DVD by ktbgreat

Advantages: non-stop fun and good feelings
Disadvantages: its addictive so the episodes run out one day!!

I love Xena and Gabrielle! A couple of months ago i bought the first Box set from Series 1 of xena and i am already onto the 5 Season. It is so addictive, I just love having that giddy inspired feel after watching an episode. The good thing about the box set is that when you get that twinge for Xena you can just sit down and watch one... or two! The first season sees the birth of a great frienship, one that will change both of their lives for the ...
...love Gabrielles honast, fun and pure character, and Xenas constant fight against her dark side is brave and strong! The first half of the series is more dramatic and we are just getting to know the characters but than all of a sudden theres this flush of humour, love and light heartedness!! I could not recommend this series any more then just but saying " Please get it for your sake!!!" ... Read review

King George commands and we obey
Review of Sharpe's Rifles / Sharpe's Eagle DVD by Secre

Advantages: Everything - plot, characters, acting, literally everything
Disadvantages: Nothing...if I'm pushed I could possibly say that they are long for single episodes.

...is the first chronological film, Sharpe's Rifles is not the first chronological novel, which would be Sharpe's Tiger when he starts as a private, but the events described in that book are placed much later in the TV show. DETAILS Title: Sharpe's Rifles / Sharpe's Eagle [1993] Date DVD released: 29 April 2002 Runtime: 200 minutes Number of Disks: 2 Format: PAL Director: Tom Clegg Main Actors: Sean Bean, Brian Cox, Daragh O'Malley, Assumpta ...
...period is quite extraordinary. Both Sharpe's Rifles and Sharpe's Eagle are set in 1809, and with both of these two episodes the book and the episode are very similar, with only slight differences. The knowledge of the period is not however only limited to the battles and events, but a very in depth knowledge of how the army in that period worked, and how the weapons were used, including the difference between rifles and muskets which I had never ... Utterly astounding
Review of La Haine (Special Edition) by JeanReno

Advantages: Brilliant film, few but solid extras, well packaged
Disadvantages: Not one

I saw this film first whilst in college and frankly it's been a very tough time finding a better film since. The film is basically a tale of three youths from one of Paris' run down outskirt estates who find a policemans weapon and contemplate reaping revenge for their friend who was shot during a riot. The film protrays the main three characters very well and despite their being novices when the film was made the actors (Vincent Cassel, Hubert Kounde, ...
...the film is wonderful. The black and white works extremely well in augmenting the bleak and brutal world in which the protaganists live. The camerawork is fantastic as well with some remarkable shots and editing. On top of this the music in the film is very fitting and really helps the atmosphere of the film. With strong social and political messages in the film you would think it would be a tad peachy. However, the film is wonderfully balanced and ... Read review

"Making mud pies, 007?"
Review of Diamonds Are Forever (Ultimate Edition) by arthurpringle

Advantages: Fun, witty script
Disadvantages: Bit lightweight, plot holes

...to play James Bond in Diamonds Are Forever - a film that would reunite him with Goldfinger director Guy Hamilton. What is the plot of Diamonds Are Forever you ask? The plot of Diamonds Are Forever is all over the place with one or two holes but essentially revolves around diamond smuggling. The British Secret Service notice that someone is building a vast collection of the world's diamonds and send James Bond to investigate why they keep disappearing. ...
...them need all of these diamonds anyway? Diamonds Are Forever has been described as the first Roger Moore James Bond film and I think there is some truth to this observation. Although Diamonds Are Forever is quite offbeat at times with a very atmospheric score by John Barry that is a major strength, it is also quite jovial in tone. There is a lot more humour in this one in contrast to previous entries. The previous film - On Her Majesty's Secret ... Read review
