Martial arts with a difference
Review of Remo - Unarmed And Dangerous DVD by tayloa22

Advantages: James Bond meets Abbott & Costello
Disadvantages: good but not brilliant

...Allow me to elaborate. Remo Williams {Fred Ward} is a New York police officer. He is in his patrol car on a stakeout when suddenly he is attacked and left for dead. Remo is hospitalised and starts to recover. When finally compus mentus he is greeted by a man at the end of his bed who tells him that he is needed by them and that he is not the same man etc. Remo looks in a mirror to discover his appearance has been altered. Naturally Remo is pretty ...
...to assassinate a Korean man. Remo sneaks in with his gun and sees this little old man making tea. Remo tries to shoot him but oddly misses everytime. There is more to this man than meets the eye. He sees the tension on the trigger finger, hears the guns mechanism, pre-empts the shot, and dodges the bullet. He closes in and does a great move putting Remo in an arm lock removing the magazine from the pistol very fast and proceeds to thumb out the bullets ... Read review

Never say never again
Review of Never Say Never Again (Wide Screen) by mjc121

Advantages: it is bond
Disadvantages: weak ending

...Forver' he said he would never play Bond again. This is an entertaining film but do not expect the James Bond experience. Just in the same way that Roger Moore , arguably shouldn't have done 'A View To A Kill' I really don't think Connery should have done this film. Whilst for many Connery will be the definitive Bond, and he certainly played him exceptionally well in the first five official films, this performance somewhat distracts from all the ...
...the film suffered set backs and in turn the final cut suffers from erratic editing and a weak climax. along with the weak caracter played by Rowan Atkinson. Now on the plus side , it certainly has a good cast in general and after all it is Bond, but Connery looks a tad old to be running round as agent 007. It is certainly has a good cinematic effort, but don't wait to hear the theme music .. because it isn't there, and it is suprisinging how much ... Read review

plans are rarely simple
Review of A Simple Plan DVD by sjp1966

Advantages: cinematography, billy bob thornton
Disadvantages: slow, some unbelievable moments

...Mitchell (Bill Paxton) works at a Mill in a small Midwest town and Winter has fully settled in when he visits his parent's grave with his brother, Jacob (Billy-Bob Thornton) and Lou (Brent Briscoe) who is a friend of Jacobs. On the way back home a fox (Which looks in a lot better condition than any fox you will see in the UK) runs out in front of the truck and they have a minor accident. Both Jacob and Lou set off to get the fox and Hank tags along ...
...they discover a crash site; a small plane is covered with snow, its pilot dead at the controls. After making their way inside they find a bag with money in it, lots of money, $4.4 million in fact. Morally correct Hank wants to hand the money in and collect any reward, if there is one. Lou and Jacob whom are both out of work see this as retirement and want to keep the money. "You work for the American Dream, you don't steal it." Exclaims Hank, although ... Read review

A Heart-stopping experience-literally
Review of Apocalypto DVD by gijoe1974

Advantages: brilliant cinematography, thrilling story, intense
Disadvantages: almost gave me a heart attack!

...a few people have labelled Apocalypto a racist movie. I'm sorry but I don't see it. What it shows is a powerful people conquering and oppressing weaker people and a man rebelling against it all. It's nothing less than the old tale of David vs. Goliath. And this intense battle is filmed beautifully. This is the kind of film that not many directors have the balls to make anymore. This epic film was truly made for the big screen. The scenery is breathtaking, ...
...spectacular human sacrifice scene that is so brilliant it hurts. I admit I have no idea how the film fared at the box office. But I guess from all the bad press Gibson received not so well. It is unconventional (how many films have you seen in Mayan dialect with subtitles?) and some might say deliriously crazy. For my part, I think it is one of the best films of the noughties. And in case you are wondering, no, I am not Mel Gibson's spokesperson. ... Read review
