I love hostage
Review of Hostage/Lucky Number Slevin/Last Man Standing DVD by malleryknoxx

Advantages: Hostage!!!!!!
Disadvantages: Last man standing

This sounds pretty good, i have heard lots of good things about lucky number slevin, However Last man staanding bored me to sleep! My dad loved it however, i think last man standing is a bit more of a mans film, it didnt appeal to me at all, it wasn't very interesting and what little storyline it had moved that slowly i fell asleep. Hostage is definatley worth getting this for though, its an amazing film, It has an amazing plot with lots of twists ...
...is lots of unpredictable and edge of your seat action. and of course it stars the luscious Ben Foster. Ladies, prepare to drool. SO it has everything you could ever want in a film. its fast paced and action packed, but has a good story behind it instead of just being mindless special effects. its a must see! You have to see it just to see ben fosters gorgeous face! The plot will definately keep you interested too! ... Read review

Not everyone who runs a city is elected
Review of King Of New York DVD by Flodum

Advantages: A gripping and sometimes chilling look at gangland
Disadvantages: Violence, drugs and swearing predominate, meaning that this film won't appeal to all

This is a superb gangster film, with Christopher Walken outstanding in that understated, yet manic way that characterises so many of the roles he plays. So much of his menace is carried in a furtive glance from his beady eyes, or a fleeting half-smile, that he does not need to say much to loom dark and threatening on the screen. Walken plays Frank White, a New York gang lord just released from the penitentiary and intent on recovering the turf that ...
...Chinese warlords during his incarceration. Surrounded by his henchmen (roles played by, among others, then then virtually unknown Laurence Fisburne and Steve Buscemi), the majority of whom are black - a fact that serves to anger his opponents who regard them as beneath contempt - White systematically eliminates competition in 'his' districts, taking control of all organised crime, and drug distribution in particular. The main obstacles to the rebuilding ... Read review

Jack Ryan vs Harrison Ford
Review of The Jack Ryan Collection (Box Set) by samd4samh

Advantages: All Jack Ryan stories are together and in order
Disadvantages: Jack Ryan played by different actors

...Soviet nuclear sub heading for the US. The Government think he is going to attack but Jack Ryan (Alec Baldwin) thinks he wants to defect. Jack has a couple of hours to prove his theory before the US Government find the 'Red October' and blow it up. Sean Connery is brilliant as usual but I found The Hunt for Red October very slow to start with, although it got exciting towards the end. *Patriot Games* Patriot Games had me hooked from start to finish. ...
...then a race to stop the terrorist whose brother he killed from killing his family. Non-stop action and suspense. *Clear and Present Danger* Clear and Present Danger had me hooked from start to finish (although slightly complicated storyline). Jack Ryan (Harrison Ford) is appointed acting CIA Deputy Director of Intelligence aqnd heads off to Colombia to investigate the murder of one of the President's friends. This film is full of action and cover ... Read review

Utterly astounding
Review of La Haine (Special Edition) by JeanReno

Advantages: Brilliant film, few but solid extras, well packaged
Disadvantages: Not one

I saw this film first whilst in college and frankly it's been a very tough time finding a better film since. The film is basically a tale of three youths from one of Paris' run down outskirt estates who find a policemans weapon and contemplate reaping revenge for their friend who was shot during a riot. The film protrays the main three characters very well and despite their being novices when the film was made the actors (Vincent Cassel, Hubert Kounde, ...
...the film is wonderful. The black and white works extremely well in augmenting the bleak and brutal world in which the protaganists live. The camerawork is fantastic as well with some remarkable shots and editing. On top of this the music in the film is very fitting and really helps the atmosphere of the film. With strong social and political messages in the film you would think it would be a tad peachy. However, the film is wonderfully balanced and ... Read review

"Making mud pies, 007?"
Review of Diamonds Are Forever (Ultimate Edition) by arthurpringle

Advantages: Fun, witty script
Disadvantages: Bit lightweight, plot holes

...to play James Bond in Diamonds Are Forever - a film that would reunite him with Goldfinger director Guy Hamilton. What is the plot of Diamonds Are Forever you ask? The plot of Diamonds Are Forever is all over the place with one or two holes but essentially revolves around diamond smuggling. The British Secret Service notice that someone is building a vast collection of the world's diamonds and send James Bond to investigate why they keep disappearing. ...
...them need all of these diamonds anyway? Diamonds Are Forever has been described as the first Roger Moore James Bond film and I think there is some truth to this observation. Although Diamonds Are Forever is quite offbeat at times with a very atmospheric score by John Barry that is a major strength, it is also quite jovial in tone. There is a lot more humour in this one in contrast to previous entries. The previous film - On Her Majesty's Secret ... Read review
