Jude Law has not had the most successful of careers, after he starred in Enemy at the Gates with Joseph Fiennes he then made AI and after hearing American reviews I would say that he didn’t do too well there either. Enemy at the Gates is an appalling film depicting a fictional retelling of the battle for Stalingrad, in which Law has the worst ever Russian accent, mainly because he spoke cockney. The language is stilted and the emotion cheesy whilst the only thing more wooden than Law was the set. Before these performances though Law starred in a film called eXistenZ with Jennifer Jason Leigh and thankfully its pretty good.
There are a lot of futuristic movies, some good (Matrix) some bad(Gattaca), but until eXistenZ came along they had all been pretty mediocre with the scripts always being risible and the direction laughable. Other than Law and Leigh the cast also boasts Ian Holm and Willem Dafoe who bump up the status of the film and ensure that we wont lose track of the plot due to bad acting. And not losing track of the plot is hard enough as, from the outset the plot twists and rollercoasters, almost losing us time and time again. For those not accustomed to fast paced action then the film will only baffle, you need some movie knowledge and a strong stomach as the film is brutal and bloody. The plot, if I can call it that sees Law rescuing the inventor of a new game(Leigh) from an assassin at one of her conventions, she introduces him to her new game and then things get weird…very weird. As I said the plot is probably the hardest thing you will ever have to follow, but the countless revelations, plot twists and violent action make it all worthwhile. At first I mistook it for some low budget claptrap, only because I heard little about it and so assumed that it wasn’t worth a mention……how wrong was i.
Directed by David Cronenberg the tone of the film is mysterious and hints at dangers throughout so you never get the chance to relax and think about it. The violence is extreme so it wont be suitable for kids and the plot may feel too ridiculous for older viewers so this film really seems to suit teenagers, which is good as the film is certainly aimed at them being fast, cool and edgy.
Always appreciate comments.

Finally another person who likes this film! I have watched it 2 or 3 times already and havent got bored of it yet! I think it is way better than the Matrix and loves the twists - the film within a film... idea. I think there is loads more to write about on this film though, u might c one of mine soon! :P Mike.
I had an entirely different opinion of this film, but you did an excellent job re-capping it without giving too much away. Always interesting to see someone elses perspective.
Wishing You Laughter, Q
Saw this in the cinema a week or so after Matrix, and Matrix is so the winner. ExisTenz isn't bad, but not is the same class - lots of opportunity to use the word 'abject' though ;)
