Set a little time in the future, in the world of Existenz to play a 'computer' game you now need a bioport with which to interface with a game pod, a being that interacts with your spinal core and nervous system to produce the ultimate in 'virtual reality'. At the beta test of the latest system & game the designer comes under attack & hides within the game itself. What follows is over an hour of bizzareness & weird goings on. As with most other David Cronenberg you get horrible creatures and unpleasantness aplenty. Not a film if you are squeamish, with an interesting twist at the end. Not entirely a bad film one to rent I suggest.
The DVD has a 53 min the making of type documentary, 3 separate commentaries & the US trailer

Advantages: An intriguing plot effectively and intelligently executed; valid and relevant discussion of current ethical issues related to technology; visually striking and with good cast performances. Disadvantages: Will not reward a viewer who is impatient or in need of a very linear narrative; open to charges of repetition of ‘Videodrome’; are the faults a deliberate part of the simulation or just the result of bad filming?
