Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks teamed up for this film in the hope of replicating the success that was the enigmatic and popular "Sleepless in Seattle". Unfortunately it failed to be a commercial success but despite that I belive it is a good film and here's my op......

Ryan and Hanks each play a member of the book industry with very different positions in the food chain.

Hanks plays Joe Fox a ruthless businessman and partner in a large national Book superstore that is owned by his rather less than orthodox family.

Out of the office he dotes upon his younger brother Matt and his (also much younger) Aunt; Annabel. She is the child of his grandfather which explains the arrangement but anyway this is unimportant to the overall plot

Ryan plays Kathlyn Kelly the owner of a small friendly children's book shop aptly called 'The shop around the corner'. She prides herself on running a friendly book shop with personality and service including kiddies storytime.

When Fox opens a giant book superstore, the shop around the corner finds its continuation threatened and Kathlyn must become David and fight the Goliath that is Fox books. The only problem is that people love discounts and Fox books can afford to discount.

Now for the twist...

Joe Fox and Kathlyn Kelly are in anonymous communication via e-mail, after a chance meeting in an over thirties chat room on the web. They begin to form a strong friendship sharing anxieties and frustrations in a manner they cannot with their partners. All this time they never realise that they are in fact business adversaries and are constantly at one another's throat out in the real world.

Obviously the film builds on this premise and so there's the film!

The two of them (Ryan and Hanks) have obvious Chemistry on screen and remind us why Sleepless was such a huge success. They play their roles fantastically.

The supporting cast is well chosen, especially those that play the main characters partners. Their roles supplement the stars very very well to give a wonderful overall performance.

The film *is* predictable, no-one would deny that and I won't here but despite that it is very enjoyable and I do recommend it. it certainly did not deserve to

a) bomb at the box office
b) receive mass criticism for not being it's de-facto predecessor.

In a nut-shell if you liked/loved Sleepless then watch this, I will almost guarantee that you at least enjoy it if not love it. Or if you just like the sound of what you've read then give it a spin, otherwise you had probably best forget.
