You, Me and Dupree tells us the story of Molly and Carl, a happy young couple who have just gotten married and moved into their own little house. Molly is a teacher at a local school and Carl works for Molly's father in property development. Everything is going swimmingly for the couple. That is until Dupree moves in. He's lost his job and his house, and being Carl's best friend, Carl can't turn him away, so much to Molly's annoyance he moves onto the couple's couch for the near-future. But Dupree proves more of a burden that either of the two imagined...
Molly and Carl are played respectively by Kate Hudson and Matt Dillon, who do an incredibly good job with their characters. Their on-screen chemistry is good, although it seems a little to stilted to be completely believable as a relationship. Hudson puts a lot of effort in but doesn't seem to get the best out of Dillon, who seems a little too cold towards her and just can't seem to go past this invisible barrier between the pair. They bicker well, like any married couple do, but there didn't appear to be much love lost between the pair, which was a shame.
The shining light for the whole film was Owen Wilson's performance as bumbling best friend Randy Dupree. Dupree just seems to be one of life's losers who, however hard he tries, manages to fail in whatever he does. Wilson protrays him with a really laid back attitude, when you watch him it is almost like you are just watching a normal person, not an actor, and that is a great talent to have! He has a wonderful on-screen chemistry with Hudson and it's quite easy to see why people thought there was something going to between the two. He makes you laugh throughout the film, although you always get the feeling there is a lot more to Dupree than meets the eye.
The other cast member who made me laugh whenever he was on-screen was the fantastic Michael Douglas who plays Mr Thompson, Molly's father and Carl's boss. He seems to be nice to Carl, promoting him after their marriage but you can see easily he has an ulterior motive. As these motives become clearer, there are some hilarious consequences and the scenes between Dillon and Douglas were just hilarious, and fantastic viewing! They had a great on-screen chemistry and the fact that Molly couldn't see what was going on just made it even funnier for me!
Clearly billed as a comedy, the film certainly doesn't fail to deliver on laughs. Right from the off, you are giggling along, but the funniest scenes for me are right towards the end with Dupree and a hilarious chase with a large Hawaiian security guard! Wilson has a great talent for comedy and the laughs follow him naturally, he is a joy to watch on screen and really carries many of the scenes by himself. Hudson also does the comedy aspect well, very much along the lines of her other hit film 'How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days'. Douglas also is fantastic and plays the psychotic father-in-law with realism and a hilarity!
The film was very enjoyable and had my whole family laughing out loud, which was nice! It had great humour which could be appreciated by all ages, so this adds to its broad appeal and makes it something a family could sit and watch together. The story isn't anything majorly original but is still funny to watch. The ending for me was a bit of a disappointment but didn't really spoil my enjoyment of the film overall in any way. It has a great cast, which for the most part are convincing and do a good job, with Wilson really shining, and Hudson not too far behind him either!
A feel good funny film, and at 108 minutes, isn't too long and will help you pass by a few hours with a few laughs! Certificate in the UK of 12A. Written by Michael DeSieur, Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. You can buy the DVD from Play.com for £4.99 which I think is a great price for this film! Definitely guaranteed to give you a few laughs!

The other night , I was in bed late at night , flicking through the channels , looking for something decent to watch on the television , when I came across 'You Me And Dupree' which was showing on ITV2. Advantages: Dillon looks hot Disadvantages: No comedy
When I was much younger I was a fan of the so called "Brat Pack", which at the time included Matt Dillon. Admittedly, he is not the world's greatest actor but I have always been drawn to films he has starred in and he is very easy on the eye. In fact, he has matured like a fine wine, and for me tops the likes of Tom Cruise in the looks department. Anyway, letching over, that sort of explains what drew me to "You, Me & Dupree", because I am not particularly ... ...Hudson. I find Hudson bland, and a more watered down version of her mother, whilst I just cannot understand the huge attraction with Owen Wilson. He is an acceptable right hand man to the likes of Vince Vaughan, but he is not a leading man in my eyes. He lacks the charisma and the humility to make me want to watch him.
Wilson stars as Randolph Dupree, a friendly but childlike character who due to bad decisions, bad planning and the luck that comes ...

Advantages: Worth a look... Disadvantages: Not too many...
Not a bad movie... pretty much what we've come to expect from an Owen Wilson movie (although not his most entertaining). Low budget, a very small plot, loads of dialogue... a few good laughs.
As always, Wilson is his charmingly naive self who always seems to be the underdog, the one who never quite makes it but doesn't really seem to care as long as he's having fun. Down on his luck, his best friend (who has just gotten married) offers to help him ... ...it... a Three is Company type movie... highly predictable, somewhat enjoyable... but it tends to drag on.
The storyline is simple... man takes in best friend, wife not too pleased, best friend makes a nuisance of himself, wife wants friend out, friend is turned out, wife pities friend and takes him back, man having problems with wife's father, man neglecting wife, wife becoming friendly with friend (platonic of course), man jealous, man kicks friend ...

Advantages: Owen Wilsons performance as Dupree - classic!, Kate Hudson - stunning Disadvantages: best bits are in the trailers
Like a lot of people i know when i saw the preview for this film i couldnt wait for it to come out at the cinema. However like many films along this genre the previews turned out to include all of the best bits. While this did cloud my judgement the first time i watched the film it does not cover the fact it is a very funny film with some brilliant acting (particularly the goofy best friend Randy Dupree aka Owen Wilson).
This is a light-hearted film along showing all the things that could possibly going wrong during the first few months of marrage. During this film you cannot help but fall in love with the 'reluctant to grow up' but loveable Dupree.
If you like films along the Wedding Crashers or Old School lines then this film is for you. ...
