Setting aside the endless inaccuracies, bad acting and infinite rip offs of ghetto life and yeah....you still have a somewhat average film.
PLOT
You got served follows the subculture of competition-style street dancing (break dancing to you and me). The plot revolves around two best friends, David and Elgin, who are also dance partners in a hip hop dance crew. The two friends are driven by the aspiration to open up their own music studio. When the crew are challenged by a rival it becomes a vicous struggle to create the ultimate set of perfect dance moves in order to show who are the top dogs. The stakes are high; it's a case of honour as well as money to be won and as friends double-cross one another, additional motives get revealed.
CHARACTERS
It has to be said that most of the actors within the films present a more ameteur side of acting. There is a distinct lack of recognisable actors also, unless however you are in to the hip hop scene. There are actors such as Omarion Grandberry (David) and Marques Huoston (Elgin). Other actors include Christopher Jones, Steve Harvey, J-Boog, Jerome Jones and Jennifer Freeman. Although the film does contain an exceptional amount of ameteur acting there are the occasional moments of relief. It does however seem extreme when we see characters wearing clothes worth a few hundred pounds a piece when they are supposed to be part of a tough ghetto upbringing. There is also an appearance by Lil Kim and MTV's La La to help make the film seem more real and relevant.
SPECIAL EFFECTS
The film isnt particularly blessed in the special effects department but then again it doesnt need to be. The dance routines are truly something to watch the film for as they are truly awe inspiring. If you are in to dance then this film will have you trying for hours to replicate the endless flips and spins. The atmosphere the dances present is equal to what we would expect from two boxers facing up to each other. Moves are choreographed beautifally and there are often 6 or so dancers moving at the same time. The dance routines do help raise the film above the downward pull of the bad acting.
SOUNDTRACK
The soundtracks to the film are expectically hip-hop with such names as DMX and Big Tank. All music is fast and pacey in order to fit in with the dance moves. There isnt however a particular soundtrack that stays with you after the film has finished, all seem 'samey' and none are particularly distinct.
SUMMARY
The film isnt as impressive as the story but it does make for interesting watch providing you are into the whole hip hop scene and like watching men spin about the screen, I would definitely recommend this film as something to watch if you have a spare hour and a half going, I wouldnt however recommend going out of you way to view this film.

Advantages: Top drawer hip hop dancing Disadvantages: Story is a bit basic but it doesnt overshadow what the film is aiming to achieve - Great dancing
...breakdancing shock outs that make you shake your head and look at your mates and say 'that was sick'.
Ok to start with the story is not the greatest but to be honest it doesnt need to be. Two friends (Omarion from B2K and Marques Houston) have a dance crew and make money and respect dancing against other crews from the neighbourhood hoping to make it big, unfortunately they both get caught up in delivering some shady items for a local gangster. ... ...dance to clear a debt. With another dance crew now looking to out do them, times get tough and the moves get tougher.
Of course along with it goes the obligitary falling out of the two friends, a love interest and a death but it doesnt hide the fact that these two guys can dance, and together in a crew (other members of B2K) can really do some amazing stuff. The final dance competition they enter is just amazing, multiple crews pulling off some ...

Advantages: Great Dance Moves Disadvantages: Not the best acting in the world
You got served is dedicated to the art of break dancing. The film itself wouldn't win any awards for the pretty obvious storyline. However, don't dismiss this film until you have seen it. This DVD was released in 2004 and was written and directed by Chris Stokes. The main stars of the film are Omarion Grandberry, Marques Houston and Jennifer Freeman. Both the male stars of this film are no strangers to the limelight with both of them having been ... ...clichéd feel to it and you can almost write the ending yourself about halfway through the film. The one major plus that I don't feel has been beaten before or since is quite simply the dancing. This film shows a lot of the dancing scenes, various battles and to be honest just highlights the fact that most of the people that are 'actors' in this film are nothing of the sort but are truly talented dancers. The dancing is amazing to watch and at times ...

Advantages: all the dancing Disadvantages: the sadness:(
Two childhood friends, take a journey into the life of a hip- hop street crowd. The two come across a few problems from thugs to falling in love. Sounds cheesy right? Well it is. This movie is the cheesiest of cheese and i loved every second of it. David and Elgin are the two friends, and one night they get into a bet with two rich guys from orange county which leaves them in need of cash, so they have to turn to the town thug Emerald. As David stays ... ...younger sister) and yes they fall for each other. ...piss poor to good. But you do get the feeling that they recruited by sitting down and watching Trouble one day.
Having read the last paragraph you probably think that I thought this was a poor film. Far from it. This is one of only 5 dvd's that I actually own. The story and acting are just filler anyway for the dancing which the whole film hinges on. In this area it exceeds all expectations. You will simply not find better dancing on any film anywhere. ... ...'street' feel.
Overall this makes it a great film to watch, especially if you love dance. And means it has a high replay value as you try and work out what they are actually doing!

Advantages: A few fancy moves to pick up Disadvantages: Dont buy it if you want to learn the dances in the film
After watching the film YouGotServed i was highly impressed with the dance moves. I've always wanted to beable to breakdance like they do on the film so i thought i would buy the Take It To The Streets DVD in hope to get some guidance on becoming a good breakdancer. After buying and watching the DVD i was extremeley dissapointed by what i saw and wished i had spent my £10 on something else. All i can say is that i gotserved.
The DVD lasts for around 50 mins and includes about three dance routines and a couple of small clips about street dancing and how to do some small moves. If you have watched the film then you will understand that the routines that are in this DVD are weak. Unfortunately other then one clip from the extra features and a small section about how to do body poppin and waves the DVD is totally off the mark ...
