Very basically put, an ex-israeli solder called Zohan Dvir decides to get out of his life in Israel, which is full of peril, as he's frustrated with the continuing conflict between the Israeli's and the palestinians and his one passion in life is, of all things, cutting hair, so he decides to run away and start a new life in New York City where he tries to be become a big flashy hairdresser, although his rather over the top attitude puts potential employers off.
Will he be recognised by other ex-pats? will he manage to 'live his dream' and become a successful hairdresser? you'll have to watch the movie to find out.

This is a very silly movie, of course, which is the first and foremost thing I think worth saying here. It is quite amusing in a daft/silly sense at first, infact at the start its quite good as there are quite a few action/chase scenes and some landscapes/scenery shots looked pretty impressive (especially on my upscaled DVD recorder), that kept my interest.
I think this movie is just too long, however, with the main downside to it being that its really too much of a one joke movie and at almost two hours long (well one hour and fifty minutes), I lost interest before the first hour was up, so it didn't do too well from that point of view. Some of the comedy is a bit crass, of course, its what you'd probably expect from Sandler and I guess I can't decide how I feel about his movies, some of them I do really quite enjoy, I like a bit of silliness once in a while, you know? but I wasn't so impressed with this, once the initial story really started, it got a bit boring and also of course there's the serious side to this, I mean obviously the actual conflict between the Israeli's and the Palestinians, its a very serious thing, so I'm not sure how I feel about it. I don't think the movie is really making fun of either side, I guess you could say in a silly way it highlights the fact that normal people with no interest in getting involved in such a long drawn out war can end up having to get involved in it but obviously this is really a comedy movie and not a drama or political movie.
The comedy is funny at times but it just felt like too drawn out a movie for me. You get the idea that this is a crazy guy who loves the ladies and isn't shy about saying certain things to certain people and all of that but after a while it is rather tiring! I'm sure some teenagers, boys inparticularly I'd imagine, would get a good laugh from it though, it probably is intended more for that age I guess. However I was a bit surprised that it was given a 12 rating given that there are some rather um saucy scenes in the movie, they aren't explicit but they are, lets say suggestive, plus the potential slightly tacky stereotyping with the main character and the language used at some points, that is more like he sounds like he means very rude things but doesn't quite say the words, so I was presuming it would be a 15 rate but no, its come off with a 12 certificate. I'd say its fine for slightly older teenagers but its not for those easily offended.
- Would I recommend it? -
No, I wouldn't overly recommend it. It goes on a bit too long and while it has some nice scenery and good action scenes near the start, I was quite bored/tired of it after the first hour or so had finished. Its alright but its a bit too one joke-ish and I've seen funnier Sandler movies really, so, its a no from me as far as recommending it goes...
