You Don't Mess With The Zohan. Right!
Adam Sandler stars as Zohan, an Israeli special forces super hero who seems to have the knack of excelling in everything he does, of being extremely attractive to the ladies and the envy of all the guys. You would think he would be in seventh heaven but no all he wants to do is escape his life, move to America and become a successful hairdresser. This is much to the disgust of his parents who are appalled at his desire.
When one of his military assignments ends with the Zohan apparently meeting his demise he uses this opportunity to appear dead, disappear and live out his fantasy for real. On the flight to America he changes his appearance, well really only his hairstyle, and sets out to fulfil his dream. However with his 80's haircut and lack of experience no top name hairdresser will employ him. He eventually starts sweeping up work at a second rate hair salon and ultimately this leads to success and some.
This film is really funny as long as you like silly films. For me there were plenty of laugh out loud moments and even Hubby enjoyed this film. Now this is saying something as he traditionally does not like American comedy films. I did not know what the film was going to be about but I knew it was a comedy.
Zohan's sexual exploits, as with his friend's mother, where he lodges in America, are sniggeringly funny. The sight of him cooking a barbeque naked on the beach, back home before his fake death, was hilarious.
YDMWTZ had a full cast but I only knew Adam Sandler and then not as a particular fan. However I really liked him in this film. He played an incongruous Lothario which made the story all the more funny. The humour is a little adult but yet there was nothing offensive. It is rated a PG for sex, nudity and language and I suppose some may find it offensive. I just thought it was good silly fun that was a little smutty in parts.
Zohan's extra talents such as being able to almost paralyse someone at the flick of a finger, or throw ten people all over the place, or hold someone's finger and then beat that person around the face with his, Zohan's, feet is ludicrous, but these were all funny to watch. I am not sure quite why this film worked so well for me but it did.
Overall I would say that if you like zany, silly, adult themed but childish humour then this film may be for you. However this film is not to be taken seriously at all and it does poke fun at things such as terrorists in a way that I guess some may find offensive.
YDMWTZ was released in 2008. This is a film only review. Hard though I find it to believe the character of Zohan was actually based loosely on a real life Jewish, ex army, hairstylist.

Advantages: Good start, amusing at points, Disadvantages: Drags on way too long for my liking, too much of a one-joke movie, a bit too stereotypical perhaps
