After getting the usual mix of sweet and salt popcorn and large Pepsi we made our way to the screen. Yes Man was shown in one of the smallest screens as it was an advanced viewing as the film does not release until Boxing Day on the bigger screens. There were many people of all ages who went to se the film and enjoyed it. Older couples, childrena dn their parents and young adults so it does appeal to a wide audience. As being a fan of Jim Carrey I was anxious to see this and see what the film had that were as good as his other films. Adverts on the T.V have said if you liked Liar Liar you would love this so I was hopefully that I would be satisfied.

Yes Man is about Carl Allen ( Jim Carrey) who has quite a lot of bad luck in life because he ignores people and says no to doing a lot for others. His friends are fed up of him; he has lost his girlfriend and is stuck in a dead end job. Carl is shown the light of opportunity when a friend of his talks him into doing a challenge of saying Yes to everything for a year. It starts to show that saying Yes pays off as his life starts to get a lot better like the meeting of a strange, beautiful women named Allison. Saying Yes to everything though is not really the way he thought it was going to be and things turn on him including many comedy situations.
~ Cast ~
Jim Carrey- Carl Allen
Carl is a lonely bored man. Stuck in a dull job, breaking up with his girlfriend Stephanie and loosing most of his friends time for him. He doesn't do a lot for anyone and sits at home hiding away from the rest of the world. Carl changes though when he starts this Yes challenge he becomes fun, unpredictable and exciting.
Jim Carrey plays this role very well. The character Carl feels to me that he was made around the actor as he just naturally plays this so well .He uses his same humour, emotions and faces throughout. The Canadian actor Carrey has a well respected reputation for appearing in comedies and even though some may say that's the genre of film he always seems to do, each and every one is different. Carrey brings comedy to a new level in this film.
Zooey Deschanel- Allison
Allison is a very unique character which I liked a lot. She seems to live life to the full and is always doing something pretty wacky. She paints, sings and does photography while jogging. Even though she does not seem to have a lot of family or friends around her she seems pretty happy with life and has an influence on others to fulfil each day with new and exciting events.
I have to say I didn't recognise the name Zooey Deschanel when I saw her name on the staring list but I defiantly recognised who she was and that she has been in many films. The sister of actress Emily Deschanel, Zooey was born into the showbiz family and has not had a bad career. Some films and TV shows she has starred in are- The Happening (2008), The Simpsons- One episode as voice for Mary (2008), Bridge to Terabithia (2007), Failure to Launch (2006) and Almost famous (2000).
Bradley Cooper- Peter
Peter is a Happy man who has a decent paid job and a great aspect on life. He has just got engaged to the love of his love and had a future in the business he is in. Although he is happy with life he is concerned and disappointed in best friend Carl who constantly lets him down and is never there for him. Carl ignores his calls and won't go out with the lads.
Bradley Cooper is a successful American actor who has had his share of great films of all genres. He is another actor that I recognised straight away without knowing what his name was. Some great films and T.V shows he appeared in are- Nip Tuck (2007), Alias (2001-2007), Failure To Launch (2006), Wedding Crashers (2005), My Little Eye (2002) and Sex and the City (1999).

~ Opinions ~
Yes Man produced by actor Jim Carrey is a successful comedy classic. It has all the right values of a comedy film and I think will join the collection of Jim Carrey's great films. I think the film had just enough length to it as it wasn't too long and it didn't cut off either. There are some interesting scenes which grabbed my attention and then some which didn't need your whole attention for. I liked the film because its one of those films that you don't really have to think a lot about. You can just stick it on and listen to in the background or what I think it is good for- putting it on one of those nights you want to unwind and not have to think too hard about the action and events in the films. It is a very easy flowing film. The scenes flow into each other and it is not very fast paced so you wouldn't miss much if you went for one of those annoying toilet breaks in the cinema. Having the film based on a book by a British author was nice and even though it is set and is very Americanised having the British influence was nice to see in an American hit.
I was quite impressed when I read more about this film. Jim Carrey has done a lot of work into this film and the budget was not very high. He did not get paid directly for his role in the film but has been paid depending on the box office performances this week. I found this very interesting and I think makes you feel that if this much hard work has gone into a film it deserves a good feedback. Many features in the film were actually done by Carrey himself such as stunts like the bungee jumping off a bridge and speaking Korean. He put a lot of research and time into this film and I think it does help make it successful. However saying this as Carrey wanted to do a lot of the stunts and preparation himself he did hurt himself badly while shooting a scene in the bar and ended up breaking 3 of his ribs, which is a price to pay trying to do it all yourself to save on costs.
Even though I thought the film was very funny and well done, I wasn't overly impressed with it. Some scenes drag on abit longer than necessary and it didn't stand out as being one of his best films. It's a great film but I wouldn't rush out if you can wait for the DVD to come out. As I am a fan of Jim Carrey I like his style and comedy so it did make me laugh quite a lot but some may not see how it is any different from some of his previous films. The film got mixed reviews within the last few weeks and received a rotten tomato rating of 77%. Some say the plot is too much like Liar Liar which I think is quite true. Even though you've got different situation and characters you have got the same sort of idea of only being able to say something specific. It is a good film and it did make me laugh a lot but I see it as more of a love story comedy such as films like Love Actually. It does have many good points to it though. The scenery in some of the scenes were amazing. The sights of America put at its best and it does create the right atmosphere. Some of the romantic scenes between Carl and Allison are very well filmed using the LA landmarks and sights.
The film has some good morals about life though. It shows that you should put yourself out there more and live life but saying yes to everything can get you into as much trouble as saying no to everything. It suggests that if you find the right balance it can create a more fulfilling life.
~ Extras ~
- Filming Locations- California USA, Memorial Stadium Nebraska, - Carrey learnt the basics of Korean for the scene with the attempted suicide. - Jim Carrey did almost all of the stunts himself including the bridge bungee jump and the trips in the bar which cost him the 3 broken ribs.
~ Recommend ~
Even though it is similar to many of his other films, I would still recommend you watch it. It is a film worth watching and it did make me laugh all the way through. It is not a fantastic film that I would rush out to go and see but if you get a chance or get the DVD when it is released I would say you will enjoy it. The film has a certificate of 12A which is suitable as it does not contain any violence but has reference to swear words and abit of sexual assumptions. Yes Man is a funny light hearted film which is ideal for a night of un winding and something to take your mind of all this Christmas stress with a few giggles. Website- http://wwws.warnerbros.co.uk/yesman/ - the website does not have anything on it as I think they are waiting for the release date to run the website properly, I know not very helpful.

...person, you have to say yes and not no and good things will come from it. He's quite sceptical at first but his friend encourages him to follow through and it doesn't take long before a number of random events takes place which leads to good things happening in his life, in his personal and work life. Its not the best nor the worst comedy and it is fairly predictable but yet I feel I quite enjoyed it and if I did, others may well do too. Advantages: some good fun bits Disadvantages: nothing new in Carey's performance or character
Yes Man, sees Jim Carey taking up his usual comedy role. In this film he plays the part of Carl Allen who is a sad man who is stuck in a dead end job in a bank and is struggling to get over his divorce. His best friends are slowly loosing patients with him as he always ignores their calls and never wants to go out, he much prefers to stay in and watch a DVD on his own. When his best friend manages to get him out he tells them that he is getting married ... ...who tells him and the Yes Man course and how they are holding a seminar. Carl reluctantly attends and soon finds he has taken this on and now he has to say Yes to anything he is asked. Just what will Carl find he is saying yes to and just how much will it change his life and his friendships?
I was really looking forward to seeing this film as I have seen Jim Carey in some very funny roles and the trailers for this film made it look very good, unfortunately ...

...changes drastically simply by saying yes to everything make for entertaining viewing. As with many romantic comedies a lot hangs on the emerging relationship of our protagonist and his emerging love interest. Fortunately, the quirky, stumbling relationship between Carl and the eccentric Allison is endearing and funny in equal measure. I have never encountered the strangely named Zooey Deschanel before but she is perfect in the role of free spirit ... ...usual love interest of Hollywood perfection. Everything about this film is a little bit unusual. Despite being modern it has a decidedly eighties retro feel complete with power ballad soundtrack. There is still the boy meets girl formula and there is the odd classic Carrey face pull to keep fans happy but it is a testament to the film that these feel out of place. YesMan- starring Jim Carrey and Zooey Deschanel is director Peyton Reed's next big film after Breakup. It seems romantic comedy is his thing and he certainly succeeds in achieving what he was set out to-to entertain the audience.
The basic premise of the film is quiet simple yet undeniably innovative.Carl is a loner,a divorced guy who would rather stay home and do nothing than going out and having fun with friends. The monotony of his life bogs him down and eventually makes him feel like a loser. He decides to participate in one of those seminars where he is made to vow to say "yes" to every question!
The whole idea did seem to be very thin to me initially.I thought this can't go on for long and would ultimately become boring.Kudos to the writing team to take the story forward in such a lovely manner, introducing new characters ...

DVD Description
In the romantic comedy YES MAN, divorce Carl Allen (Jim Carrey) finds himself stuck in a rut, too afraid to take a risk. At his best friend's insistence, he attends a New Age self-help seminar designed to turn naysayers into yea-sayers. Carl is reluctant at first, but finds the seminar to be ultimately life-changing when he's coerced into adopting a 'say yes' attitude. As the first opportunity to say 'yes' presents itself, Carl hesitantly utters the three-letter word, setting the stage for a domino effect of good rewards, and giving Carrey a platform to show off his comedy chops. But over time, Carl realises that saying 'yes' to everything indiscriminately can produce results every bit as complicated and messy as saying 'no'. The ever-quirky Zooey Deschanel adds her signature charm as Carl's love interest, Allison. An unlikely match at first glance, the pair's on-screen chemistry starts to bloom as the actors play off each other's different styles of humour. Rhys Darby also shines as Carl's loveable but clueless boss, and THAT 70s SHOW's Danny Masterson appears as another one of Carl's friends. While YES MAN marks no major departure from Carrey's previous work, the sweet crowd-pleaser manages to showcase two sides of its leading man.
