the extraordinarily prolific outputXenacomposer Joseph LoDuca has written for the popular adventure show. Rob Tapert and Lucy Lawless note that LoDuca has written 134 hours of music forXenaand the album reflects the postmodern nature of the show, ranging from serious action, suspense and dramatic writing to pure-camp silliness, from full orchestral scoring to electronic atmospherics and ethnic/world/folk music pastiches. Opening with a stirring 20-minute suite from "Fallen Angel", the Season Five opener, the episode "Ides of March" is featured strongly, while 25 minutes from "Friends in Need" find LoDuca creating simple but effective sampled Japanese soundscapes. There are eight cues from "The Ring Trilogy", including the music from probably the most famous kiss in fantasy television since Kirk and Uhura. The second CD has eight tracks grouped as "Bonus Cues", but the absence of any explanatory notes for these and the selection of 14 "Special Requests", including the Python/"Lumberjack Song", is frustrating. Even the most die-hard fans might have trouble working out just where every last one of these often comic pieces come from, but otherwise this very diverse release should satisfyXenadevotes and modern film music fans alike. --Gary S Dalkin

Advantages: Nice picture gallery on all dics, great value Disadvantages: none
...I enjoy watching the XenaWarriorPrincess program on channel 5 but when I noticed it on video I was considering buying it but as with all video tapes if you watch them often enough they end up waring out like all things, but when I found it on dvd I just had to get it.
There is 3 discs in volume 1.
Disc one comprises of:
Sins of the past
Hooves and Harlots
The black wolf
Beware greeks bearing gifts
Disc 2:
Athens city academy of the performing bards
A fistful of dinars

On all the discs is a picture gallery with a nice selection of pictures.

The set is good value, I found...

Advantages: Excellent episodes in this boxset Disadvantages: No Extras
...I love Xena: WarriorPrincess, so naturally i have all the six seasons on DVD. First I will point out that there are 11 episodes on three DVDs. Here's a little information on each episode.
For those who don't know Xena here's a little information. Xena used to be a evil warlord killing people for power and fun, she starts questioning herself if this is what she really wants to keep on doing. She rescues a baby from a burnt out town that her men did without her permission. She goes through the warrior gauntlet and survives and turns good after she has a run in with Hercules. Along the way she saves a group of women from being taken slaves, this is where she meets Gabrielle. After saving them she heads out of town looking to do some good and Gabrielle follows her, they strike up a friendship over time and become best friends. Roaming...

Advantages: Great for a Xena fan Disadvantages: not enough dvd extra's
...This Xena boxset on dvd is great if you are a Xena fan. The episodes are brilliant to watch and personally i am going to collect on these. Though for a dvd its quality is sometimes not that dis-similar to video tapes and theres not really any extra's except for a picture gallery on every third dvd.
The bottom line is if you know what Xena is about and watched it on tv then you won't be disapponited but if you like plenty of extra's for the extra cash you spend on dvd then you will be disappointed there.
The main feature of the dvd, the episodes tells you the great beginning of a true friendship that is growing all time and that survives whatever nature or the gods throws at it.
The episode are fun yet sometimes tense and i personally think they could be watched over again rather than like with some tv programs once where once is enough...
