The X-Men, classic cartoon, brilliant comic book, amazing film? I had my doubts when unwrapping the covering of my latest DVD movie, it appeared at first glances to be one of those poorly translated TV to movie Hollywood blockbusters that just don't quite make it. But I was pleasantly surprised. The plot line is well conceived; the idea of a race of people separated by an identical cause is a clever concept. The mutants want freedom, they don't want to be persecuted by the modern worlds ideals of a perfect nation. The normal people want mutants to identify themselves in public - a plan that will eventually end to the victimisation of the mutants.
The leader of the "good" mutant side is Captain Jean Luc Picard (OK so it's not actually him, but you can never shake that image out of your head for the whole movie.) I just want him to shout "warp speed 9, make it so!" at every interval. But it is a refreshing change from the usual stiff role he has shown in the past, he makes a good natural leader. His acting is superb, and his quiet superiority is a joy to behold.
The lead role however is played by Wolverine, possibly everyone?s favourite mutant. He doesn't quite have a side to begin with, choosing to be a freer sprit and not be tied down to one particular side. He is the comedy in this movie, with some quick 1 liner's in an otherwise serious action flick.
This movie surprised me; it was actually quite a joy to behold, well written, great action scenes, amazing special effects and a good cast and crew. Overall a really nice movie to watch, and at the cinema I'm sure the experience was even more enthralling. Well worth the money renting or buying the DVD.
