UPDATED 05/04/01: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This review is on the X-Men DVD Region 1(US and Canada):
You love the comic, you love the movie, now let's start loving the DVD, shall we? X-Men is undoubtedly one of the best comic-to-movie ever made into the big screen. It was a huge summer blockbuster this year(2000) and the DVD will surely make it big as well. Now, let us see why this is.
First, let's start with the movie. Don't worry if you don't follow the comic at all or don't know squart about X-Men, because all is not lost when watching the movie. Directed by a young guy name Bryan Singer(who brought us The Usual Suspects--a great flick!), X-Men basically tells a story of a bunch of gifted superhuman mutants trying to fit in into this prejudice little world. These gifted mutants are called the X-Men, under the guidance of Professor Charles Xavier(brilliantly played by Patrick Stewart) have to struggle against humans and also other mutants who is against their cause--which is to bring humans and mutants alike living in harmony.
The storyline of X-Men is simple yet full of witt and humanity. The way it was shot with splendid special effects shows a lot of maturity of how Bryan Singer works as a filmmaker. With a brilliant cast especially Hugh Jackman(who was't known at all until X-Men) who played Wolverine, X-Men can do no wrong! The only drawback is the film is pretty short! (due to the small budget and time constraint Singer had to bear from Twentieth Century Fox!)
But, all is not lost especially when you bought the DVD(region 1). There's loads of bonus features included. One of the best is the 10 minutes of never before seen footage of the movie. It also includes a special interview with bryan singer, hugh jackman screen test, still gallery, animatics, trailers and not to forget a feature length of the making of the X-men.
The sound and picture quality is superb, and if you buy the DVD from region 1, you'll also receive a cool silver cover!(a must have for a DVD fan!)
All in all, this is a DVD worth buying. Prepare for the sequels though!

I got this DVD from Britannia Music when I didn't cancel the editor's choice in time. Maybe it's time I watched it! Good review.

Sorry but I can't disagree more, the plot was week, the acting even weaker.
The only good thing about the film was the special effects.
The DVD was packed with extras, but unfortunately Special effects and extras on the DVD don't make a good film.

i think i'll check this out then! sounds like u have similar taste in movies, but swapping DVD's might not be worth it because of postage etc. But i wouldn't mind swapping 'Being John Malkovich' with something cos i thought it was pants!
