I started reading this title some 20 years ago! I was not expecting to be impressed by this film, but I was!
It appears to me that certain purists are too infatuated with old faces to appreciate new faces.
I personally thought the casting was excellent. Seeing hints of Firestar and Iceman were very nicely done.
I loved Mystique and Toad.
Sabertooth was well done and portrayed as exactly what he is and was, a lackey! Toad was covered very well, including his little used ability to spew resin...
As for Magneto. Excellent choice! I take personal affront to comments such as Ian was "too gay", but chalk that up to ignorance and intolerance!
Patrick Stewart as Xavier was a fantastic choice. His abilities were just as in the comic book, understated and very controlled.
I thought Jean Grey, Scott Summers and Logan's little triangle was well done considering the time restraints.
Rogue's foray into the world was done VERY closely to the original concept. The only loose end is getting her Ms. Marvel's power of flight and invulnerability...
I would have loved to see Angel (or even Archangel) and/or The Beast, but all-in-all, well done and cheers.
