Mutation: it is the key to our evolution. It has enabled us to evolve from a single-celled organism into the dominant species on the planet. This process is slow, and normally taking thousands and thousands of years. But every few hundred millennia, evolution leaps forward… Although...

ProCool film, no knowledge of comic strip needed

I was very dubious about this film at first, partly because of all the hype that was surrounding it, but mostly because i have never actually read any of the famour marvel comics that put X-Men on the map. Yet, off i trudged with my mates to the cinema - and i wasn't dissapointed. The film made...

**Please see my note at the bottom explaining why I can write an opinion at a time like this** As Hollywood searches for ideas we begin to see many comic book characters come to life. Batman and Spiderman have previously been done; it was therefore inevitable that some of the lesser-known super...

I’ve never read any of the X-Men comics so wasn’t familiar with the background and characters. I went to see it because it’s one of the few blockbusters around this summer and I was interested to see if it lived up to the hype! Well yes I think it did! The film is basically about human mutants...

Bored silly the other night, hubby and I decided to order a film from ntl`s front row movies. After spending ten minutes watching the trailers we both decided x-men looked pretty cool. So out came the sofa bed and the surround sound and the popcorn and we were off. Well, what can I say but wow...

The next stage in human evolution is a mutation resulting in some superhuman power. Ordinary humans are whipped up to fear and hate these 'mutants' by a senator based completely on Joseph McCarthy and his hunt for communists. Two old friends find themselves on opposite sides of a rift in the...

An entertainment masterpiece, resurrected from the storybook. The Marvel Comic characters have now been brought to life in this excellent film by Bryan Singer. X-Men has now been released on DVD, with a whole host of extra features to go with it. I will begin by saying a bit about the film itself...

Product Information : X-Men (DVD)

Manufacturer's product description

Based on the long-running Marvel comic book series, X-MEN takes place in the near future, as certain humans are evolving into mutants with special powers. In the Canadian wilderness, a young runaway mutant named Rogue (Anna Paquin) and a bad-tempered, quick-healing mutant with retractable metal claws called Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) are suddenly attacked by the powerful Magneto (Ian McKellen) and his lackeys. Fortunately, Cyclops (James Marsden) and Storm (Halle Berry), students of the compassionate Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), interfere and bring them back to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Here Wolverine and Rogue learn more about the conflict between Xavier and the militant Magneto, who wants to power a device that will genetically alter humans, with possibly deadly results. Only Xavier's students can stop Magneto's plans.<BR>Director Bryan Singer (THE USUAL SUSPECTS) displays his expertise with an ensemble cast, accomplishing a feat by making the first live-action film about an entire group of superheroes. Hugh Jackman's portrayal of the ill-tempered Wolverine is dead-on, while Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are ideally matched in their Martin Luther King, Jr.- and Malcolm X-like roles. Smart and well-paced, X-MEN towers above most comic book movies.
