STORYLINE AND OVERLOOK Due to the huge success of the first, the x-men are back for some more none stop entertainment, and it has to be said I was not disappointed. It was based on the massive comic strip by marvel.
The film starts from where the previous one ended with Magneto held in the purpose build non-conductive prison and wolverine is returning from his voyage to discover how he was made.
As you are following from where you left off this is great as you sense that you do not need to really concentrate to pick up the storyline like in some films. After an attack on the president by a mutant (who can teleport and do cool stuff like Neo from the matrix : o ) ) this causes a political and public outcry. This is lead by William Striker a ex army commander who has been said to have experimented with mutants. It appears that Striker is a key part to the dubious and jaded past of Wolverine. Striker plans a devious attack on the mutant mansion. Magneto, Professor X and the x-men set out to stop Striker and his team from killing the mutant race. But everything is not how it appears as Magneto and his accomplice Mystique have something else up there sleeve. It was to be the X-mens most dangerous mission yet…
TAKING A CLOSER LOOK I have to admit that I was very impressed with the sequel. The first movie was very good and to be fair most sequels are quite poor comparing them to the first, but x-men 2 certainly proved me wrong! X-men 2 is better than the first one as simple as that. The storyline is superb and perfectly executed with some fantastic directing. The special effects are nothing short of world class and are similar to that of in Matrix reloaded. Also the characters gained a more emotional role in this sequel, which allows you to delve deeper into the storyline. This was lacking in the first X-men.
Acting was phenomenal, it has to be said and you would expect this from the list of stars such as Ian Mkellen who plays Magneto who also plays Gandolf in lord of the rings and Halle Berry who plays storm are just a few of the great actors involved in this epic. All performances are very strong throughout there was not one member of the cast that let themselves or the movie down.
X-men to is an action movie filled to the brim with cool special effects and ready to spontaneously combust with action. There is no point in the film which you may find remotely boring as your heart continues to race which is great! The film has a 12A certificate, which would offend younger children. It’s not so much blood shed or spurting anywhere but just a lot of fighting manoeuvres. For example you see people getting stabbed but you don’t see blood gushing out like someone just squeezed the tomato ketchup patch like you get in some cheap horror movies! It lasts approximately 130 minutes, which is just about right before focus begins to be lost.
THE BOTTOM LINE This is certainly a blockbuster of the year which is bound to win awards. If you like action movies then you will love this because there’s plenty of it! An adrenaline roller coater ride! I will buy this on DVD when it comes out. It’s a new species of action movie. (I like that)
