. The television adaption was decided by Southern TV in late 1970's and with the clever writting talents of Keith Waterhouse and Willis Hall, Worzel Gummidge was born in glorious colour. Worzel Gummidge the hapless scarecrow that had a number of heads for various purposes such as singing heads and magic heads was played to perfection by Jon Pertwee (Dr Who, Navy Lark). Worzel like all scarecrows in the area was made by The Crowman who was played by Geoffrey Bayldon (Catweazle) and the series follows Worzels' adventures in a small English town and countryside and the number of scrapes that he gets into with his friends. Worzels gone down under

Advantages: great family fun for everyone
Disadvantages: none

Review of Worzel Gummidge Down Under - The Complete Series 1 (DVD)

Everyone should experience Worzel

Advantages: Good clean health entertainment for all
Disadvantages: When he went Down Under so did the quality

Having recently sat with my youngest son watching some of what is supposed to pass as children?s TV programmes I somehow let my mind drift back to years gone by and to some of the programmes that I used to watch and enjoy and one programme kept coming back to me and that was the one and Only Worzel Gummidge. Now for those of you who have either forgotten this programme or who were unlucky enough to have never seen it, Worzel Gummidge was a 30 minute programme about a scarecrow of the same name played by the late great Jon Pertwee who was able to come to life, and in doing so create havoc on a weekly basis which millions of people and I don?t just mean kids enjoyed.
