The Plot. ============ A young secretary finally thinks she has a chance when her new boss agrees to listen to some of her ideas. The Storyline. =============== Tess McGill (Melanie Griffiths) looses her job for her boss leery Lutz and then discovers that her boyfriend Mick Dugan (Alec Baldwin) is cheating on her with another woman. She starts to feel like her life is spiralling out of control, when suddenly she gets the break she needs in the form of a new job for Katherine Parker (Sigourney Weaver). She is determined to make a go of this job and really wants to make a go of a career, which falls right into place in her new job, as Katherine Parker seems supportive. She tries to run a few of her business ideas past Katherine but Katherine says they are not suitable but to keep trying. Tess thinks fair enough, as Katherine Parker still seems to be supporting her until one day when Katherine is on vacation she gets a phone call. It is Katherine, she has had an accident while skiing and cannot come home when planned, so she asks Tess to take over and look after her plants in her apartment as well. Tess does not mind as she thinks Katherine in a great boss until she is going through her memos at the apartment that is. When listen she realises that Katherine is trying to set u a plan that what her idea behind her back. Tess is furious so she decides to take matters into her own hands while she has the chance as Katherine is away. She takes huge chances an enrols the help of Katherine's associate and love interest to help get the deal going and soon finds that they are falling in love. Problems start to occur when Katherine returns home unexpectedly before the deal is done and finds out what Tess has been up to and is out to stop her. Will Katherine ruin everything and take the credit for Tess's plan or will Tess get the credit she deserves and the man she loves.... You will have to watch to find out.
The Acting / My Opinion. ======================== This is not one of Sigourney Weavers greatest acting achievements but in saying that she takes on her character fantastically and gives it the exact personality needed to make this film entertaining. Harrison Ford brings his usually manly and masculine charms to this character and we get to see some of the famous expressions and slight dry wit that he has become famous for in the characters Hans Solo and Indiana Jones. He gives a perfect personality to Jack Trainer and helps carry the film in the sections where in my opinion Melanie Griffiths acting fails badly. Harsh as it is this film shows why Melanie Griffiths struggled to continue her acting career. Admittedly, her facial surgery put the final boom on insuring her career hit rock bottom but this performance shows she was already on her way down anyway. She is unable to matter how hard she tries to cover that horrible common sounding screechy voice that just goes straight through you. Fortunately she has been teamed with tow fantastic, highly credited actors who can manage to cover her bland and boring acting capabilities. On saying that though you do still have a good film with a good storyline that is well worth a viewing. It is also to see the great acting talent in both Alec Baldwin and Joan Cusack although it would have been nice to see a bit more from there characters in this film.
The Directing. ================= Mike Nichols provides us with a good quality, entertaining film with his directing. He has brought the storyline to life and made it very interesting and appealing. He has also done the best he can considering he has to direct Melanie Griffiths, but lucky he has the strong acting of Harrison Ford and Sigourney Weaver to help him overcome this. Other great films that we have had the pleasure of being entertained by which Mike Nichols has directed include `Catch 22`, `Biloxi Blues`, `Closer` and `Heartburn`,
Summary. ================ An extremely interesting storyline, but with a light-hearted side and many twists and turns during the plot. I found that this film did have a few slow moments in the story though, but it did manage to keep me entertained, I just wish they had chosen to cast someone else instead of Melanie Griffiths as I feel this film would have been far more appealing if they had. On saying, this though I still feel this film is quite entertaining and if you can bear through Melanie Griffiths then I highly recommend you watch this film.

Advantages: Brilliant Disadvantages: Lack of DVD extras, but the film itself is excellent
...getting the good roles. In Working Girl, he works with Melanie Griffith and Sigourney Weaver to give us director Mike Nichols' 1988 film telling a story about office work in the 1980s.
Essentially, the film doesn't have a special plot. It tells of Tess McGill (Griffith), a clever secretary who lands a job working for Katharine Parker at Trask Industries. When Katharine breaks her leg and Tess finds out she was going to steal one of her ideas, she ... ...her own boss. The sparks fly as professional backstabbing ensues left, right and centre. Cue Hollywood cheese..............
Ford kind of takes a back seat in this film and lets Griffith and Weaver dominate the proceedings, and this is the right move. The script nails it with the spoft spoken Tess convincing everyone she is someone she isn't, and with Katharine not having a clue. The comedy element is prevalent throughout, and this is something the ...

Advantages: great music Disadvantages: fats, some moves a little hard to work out at first
The hot pants work out is a great work out DVD.
It starts with the easier / slower work out and builds up until your really going for it.
I lost two inches doing this DVD twice a week for 3 months. (As well as following a good diet) this DVD helped me tone up the areas that needed it most.
There is an inspiring true story on the DVD about a girl who did the work out which is worth watching.
It splits into 6 sections so that you can do the ones most relevant to you if you don't have time to do it all but it only takes an hour to complete. So it should be fine
The only thing I didn't like about the DVD is you do need a bit of room to complete some of the moves so it is quite hard to do in your living room unless it's a good size.
It shows you some great dance moves for when you're out clubbing and it has a really good soundtrack ...
Advantages: Continuous Random play feature... Disadvantages: Slightly addictive!
This DVD is about a cheeky charming young penguin who spends his time playing with his friends and family. He is always landing himself in silly situations and funny comical adventures whilst living in his snowy winter wonderland.
My fiance bought this DVD for our little girl as something to keep him and our daughter entertained while I worked weekends (though I think it may have been more for his benefit!). The lack of language leaves this DVD open to all ages and languages!
While this DVD only has 24 episodes of the cheeky penguin and his fun filled adventures, it has an amazing "Continuous Random Play" feature which allows the dvd to play for hours on end which is a god send in the car!
The price of this DVD varies from about £3.99 upwards to about £8.99 but i'll tell you, it's worth every single penny!! ...
Advantages: Great story, feel good film Disadvantages: None
This has to be one of my all time favourite films and I was so pleased when Father Christmas got me the special 15th Anniversary edition DVD for Christmas!
The film stars Julie Roberts who plays a working street girl who is currently living with her friend and trying to make ends meet. She is out on the street one night when a business man pulls up in his posh car and asks for direction. Vivienne (Julie Roberts) offers to show him personally to his hotel. She learns the mans name is Edward (Richard Gere) and that he is a billionaire.
Edward invites Vivienne to his room and they end up spending the night together. The following morning Edward asking Vivienne if she would be prepared to stay with him for the week and accompany him on his dinners and days out. They agree on the price of $3000 for the weeks work.

DVD Description
A young secretary (Melanie Griffith in an Oscar-nominated performance) with dreams of moving up the corporate ladder thinks that her brains will help her achieve her goals. And when she finds a job with a seemingly helpful and sympathetic boss who's also a woman (played by Sigourney Weaver) it looks as if she's on her way. But it turns out the executive is slimy and duplicitous, stealing the secretary's clever ideas to further her own career. Now the furious secretary's determined to get revenge and her plan may not only propel her to the top of the heap but get her a husband too (Harrison Ford). Mike Nichols directed this workplace comedy with a light, smart touch, getting terrific performances from his excellent cast.
