Advantages: An ambitious and classy addition to Woody Allen's CV
Disadvantages: You might dislike Woody Allen!

...with Hannah's ex-husband Mickey, a hypochondriac television producer played by Woody Allen... Despite the interior monologues, chapter titles and nod to 'Fanny and Alexander' (Like Fanny and Alexander, Hannah and Her Sisters begins and ends with a festive family gathering) Hannah and Her Sisters is not Woody in his ultra serious mode. If the 'early funny ones' (Sleeper, Bananas, Take the Money and Run) constitute 'comedy Woody' and the likes of Interiors, Another Woman and September 'serious Woody' then Hannah and Her Sisters is a return to the 'inbetween Woody', a film with serious themes and dramatic elements but with a big dose of Woody's gift for comedy. ...This film is about family and woody allen uses many characters in thhisfilm from the brother to the parents and back again. Inddulge yourself in a great masterpeice of an allen film. Better than Purple rose and propably his best film yet . If you wnat a great film to watch together then this is the one for a great night in but dont forget the tissues. The film may start out very slowly but it builds up in pace and you are swept along with all the emotions that woody puts into his films. One to watch be it on you own but better with a close friend. Advantages: A Gem.
Disadvantages: Can't think of one.

...Pure nostalgia. It's comfort food, but for the eyes. I don't think I'll ever have a bad day as long as I can put this film on for a few minutes. Woody Allen made Radio Days in 1987, on the back of Hannah and Her Sisters, and right before his Bergmanesque offerings (September and Another Woman - 1987 and 1988 respectively) which were not so great (partly because Bergman did them much better himself). Radio Days is Woody Allen's tribute to his childhood, growing up in the Rockaway area of Brooklyn, listening to the radio and playing with his friends. We follow the young Woody Allen, played by Seth Green, visiting Radio City Music Hall, his experiences at Hebrew School and his family's feuds with their communist neighbours.
