Without doubt this is an incredible watch. Richard E Grant in his debut roll shows that he is currently wasting all his talent by doing adverts for catalogue stores. His performace as withnail warrants an oscar. This film may seem a little obsure but this is only due to its genius. Great casting, writing, acting, everything. It is set in the late 60s where two aspiring addicted actors (one a complete neurotic and the other slightly insane) decide that they need a break from their stressful London lives and so go to Uncle Monty's county retreat. It is fair to say that the two of them do not quite get to grips with country life in the same way as others might. This is by no means a long drawn out film but it does pull you in and by the end of it you really will care about the characters. You will long to talk about this film over and over and recommend it to many. A definite purchase for anyone who really likes a film with a clever script and classic performances. It may not be action packed but it does have Uncle Monty. This film is so good I named my fish after all the characters, except the poacher(Micheal Elphick) cos that would be sureal.
