Advantages: Great TV Disadvantages: The worst of the five series
The BBC`s rather bold policy of showing five series of The Wire back-to-back during the spring and summer evenings is very welcome as it annoying, and certainly all rather frantic if you want to keep up, video tapes piling up by our TVs as the excellent American cop series goes out at that post Newsnight, BBC2, 11:15pm weekday slot. It's a complete mystery why they didn't put it on the 9 pm weekday slot to build its popularity and so drag it out for two years it's that good and intelligent viewing for that anti-ITV prime-time slot.
Series one reflected the Black American drug culture of the City of Baltimore, through the eyes of the police, the legislature, the local politicians and the black criminal underclass themselves, their methods not that different from the good guys in getting the job done, whoever the good guys are ...
Advantages: Great adaptation Disadvantages: Too harrowing for some
(John Michie and Doon Mackichan). As the investigations continue, their paths start to cross in what begins to be a harrowing plotline well worked out by the authors and executed by the cast and crew.
What struck me most about this was he haunting nature and graphic handling of it. It is definitely something for after the watershed or if you're going to watch the DVD, make sure there are no kids around. My wife had to turn away a couple of times when we were watching it the other day.
Robson Green is one of those actors you either like or you don't - there seems to be no middle ground. A lot of people I have spoken to about his character Tony Hill seem to think he was a bad choice, and while I agree his roles in Soldier Soldier and other dramas are a far cry from the mature and deep psychologist inWireIn The Blood, I think he does ...
Advantages: Sexy and vampy Disadvantages: some poor acting in parts
shows, True Blood obviously being one of them.
True Blood
True Blood has been advertised on TV for ages, and unfortunately I have not had the channel to see it, I have had to watch adverts for something that I found genuinely appealing only to find they were advertsing a channel that I do not have...little bit harsh! However due to popularity it is now showing on channel 4 and I was so taken by the first episode that I bought the boxset on DVD so I can watch them in my own time. Which is quite a spoil sport of me really, but once I get my teeth into something I just won't let go, and I can see me watching these over and over!
It is an American supernatural drama series with was created by Alan Ball, like the recent popular film Twilight, True Blood is based on a series of books called The Southern Vampire Mysteries ...
