Advantages: Family entertainment, fun, easy-going, available on DVD! Disadvantages: Doesn't stick to the original story. May lead to eating large amounts of chocolate.
Opening with a bowl of melting chocolate is most definitely the way to get people (or chocoholics, at least) hooked onto a film.
Charlie, a little boy from a poor family, finds a Golden Ticket in his chocolate bar, which means he and an accompanying adult can go on a tour of WillyWonka's chocolatefactory along with other winners.
The factory employs all-singing and all-dancing Oompa-Loompas, who sing about each of the children and their faults.
The story shows us a little bit about each winner, but focuses mainly on flashbacks had by WillyWonka (owner of the factory and candy-maker extraordinaire) about his lonely childhood and his dentist father.
I saw the original film once when I was small, and my opinion of this one is very much influeced by having seen both films.
As a children's movie, it is quite good, though the other film ...
I have just been watching the children's classic WillyWonka and the ChocolateFactory with my two daughters and we have all really enjoyed it. I had seen it years ago but had forgotten just waht a good film it is, and watching it as an adult has been just enjoyable.
The film was made in 1971 and is based on the wonderful book by Roald Dahl. It tells the story of Charlie Buckett, a small boy who lives in almost penniless conditions in a rundown cottage with his mother and his four bedridden grandparents. He is a very uncomplaining boy and all of his family wish they could provide more for him.
One day, everybody all over the world becomes very excited when WillyWonka, who runs a big chocolatefactory announces that he has placed five golden tickets in chocolate bars. The recipients of these tickets will win all the chocolate that can ...
Advantages: Entertaining, comical, great cast, good sets and story Disadvantages: A little dated now
Film only review with no spoilers.
By the time WillyWonka and his ChocolateFactory was released to cinema audiences in 1971 I was already an adult. Well I was 19 and thought I was. However I still really enjoyed this film and thought I would give it another viewing when it was on television
this weekend. Sure it is a little dated these days but it still has a magic charm.
I need to say firstly that I have not seen the recent re-make of this film which starred Johnny Depp. For me Gene Wilder will always be WillyWonka. The film taken from the children's story Charlie and the ChocolateFactory by Roald Dahl is a combination of humour, music, strange sets and a story with a message.
Charlie Bucket, which is not pronounced Bouquet, is a young boy with more than his fairshare of problems. His family live in poverty with his aged ...
