I fell in love with this movie one night over Christmas, I had always been a fan of Sandra Bullock and when I saw that Seth's dad from the OC was in it I sat down to watch it not expecting much, but to this day I still love this film. It's a sweet romantic comedy which will stay with you forever.
Basic Plot
Lucy Moderatz is the sort of person who thinks she'll live on her own for the rest of her life with her cats. She works at the train station taking tokens for the train, and in her opinion her life is too boring. Except at 8 o'clock every morning, a young business man comes through her token booth every morning, in her eyes it's her prince charming.
On Christmas morning however, he comes through at his usual time, but gets mugged on the platform and gets pushed onto the tracks whilst a train is just about to come. Lucy jumps on the tracks and saves him.
At the hospital, Lucy can't get into see this mysterious man because she's not immediate family, but a nurse mistakes what Lucy says and calls her his fiancée in front of his family. They fall in love with Lucy and she follows this little charade because she can't bring herself to tell them the truth. For the first time in her life, she is surrounded by a huge family, and is engaged, even if he doesn't know about it and he's in a coma. Something unexpected happens though and she realises that maybe Peter (the coma guy) is not her prince charming, but maybe someone else is.
Cast
Lucy Moderatz- Sandra Bullock Peter Callaghan- Peter Gallagher Jack Callaghan- Bill Pullman Ox Callaghan- Peter Boyle Saul- Jack Warden
Why is it so good?
The writer has managed to write a simple storyline, which may seem complicated in this review, but when you watch the film you'll see the simplicity in which the film is portrayed. The cast may not be the most well known actors in the world, but it all seems to work. It's a typical Sandra Bullock film, if you love any of her other films, besides Premonition which by definition blowed, you'll love this movie.
Trivia
The original screenplay was about a woman in a coma and a man pretending to be her fiancée. Many studio executives thought this to be too predatory, but one suggested reversing the roles. Once the script was rewritten, the movie was picked up by Hollywood Pictures.
Quotes
Ashley: Peter Callahan is engaged to me. I object to this wedding! Priest: Get in line. Ashley's husband: And I object to your objection. Mary Callaghan: Who's that? Peter: Ashley's husband. Midge Callaghan: You proposed to a married woman? Peter: Yes. And I'm in a coma when my brother makes a play for my- sort of my fiancée
Lucy: You don't have to walk me home. Jack: You block the wind.
Jack: Tell me about your dad, what was he like? Lucy: He was a lot like me, brown hair, flat chest.
Anything Else
This film is fantastic, it's such a sweet and simple movie. It's quite often on Channel 1 late at night, but I'm sure you can get the DVD quite cheap on Play.com.

Now this a film I truly loved and I thought Bullock was irresistible in it...sadly, after this film she would go downhill making one bad film after another until Miss Congeniality brought her back on top. Chris x
