Advantages: One okayish performance. Disadvantages: It's utter rubbish.
. But it doesn?t gel with the score.
?SleepingDogs? is a film that fails not because of its distasteful subject matter, but because of the lack of expertise behind and in front of the camera. No-one involved in the production appears to have any inkling of what they?re supposed to be doing. The direction is amateurish, the script is a stand-up routine in search of a comedian, the performances are wooden and the music bizarre. Unless you want a master-class in how not to make a movie, I?d avoid it like the plague. ...
Advantages: David Hayman is unidentifiable Disadvantages: Too many issues to list
As Where The Truth Lies began I had no knowledge of what I was watching, the first 4 minutes gave me the impression I was going to see something really good. The movie starts in the 50's with top TV and night-club act Lanny and Vince performing live for an epic 36 hour telethon. The scene is overcut with words from Bonnie a woman later revealed to be writing Vince's biography; Bonnie's voice leads us to the discovery of a naked body in a bathtub, she promises us an epic mystery. What we in fact get is a live action adaptation of Scooby Doo without the dog.
The movie is told in a rather annoying and possibly for some confusing at times way, events from the 50's and the 70's run side by side, with neither Lanny or Vince ageing in anyway; the only difference is their hair. To add the the annoyance most of the story is told in biography ...
Advantages: decent cast, decent plot if you don't know original story Disadvantages: some rather drastic changes from original story
big names and not fully utilise their abilities.
DVD EXTRAS
My DVD has the option of choosing:
* Play
* Scene selection
* Interviews & Behind The Scenes
* Subtitles (on / off)
It?s quite obvious what "Play" does (I hope) and within "Scene selection" you can choose to watch from 8 different scenes. The "Interviews & Behind The Scenes" section was rather disappointing with just 15 minutes of film here with quite a few playbacks of scenes from the film interspersed with narrative from Geraline McEwan who says at the start ?I think that now I?ve very much got her on my pulse and I don?t have to think about what she?s like, I just feel what she?s like now.? Sophia Myles talks about her character in the film about how she felt her breath was taken away when she first saw the house and surrounding area where the house is that ...
