Advantages: really ggod read Disadvantages: went on in places
What the ButlerSaw is definitely the pinnacle of Joe Orton's humour; it was the last play before he was brutally murdered one year later in 1970.
The storyline is far too difficult to explain, but in very vague summary, it concerns a series of mistaken identities and one-liners that happen in a psychiatrist's office when an adulterous seedy affair with his potential secretary goes horribly wrong.
The story begins with a traditional back drop with a basic set up of mistaken identity beginning the comedy, however the introduction of more characters and complications means the plot gets thicker and at points hard to follow but it also becomes more humorous by the minute. The farce becomes more and more riotously funny that will leave your sides hurting, and twist follows twist until the climactic end that makes a mockery ...
Advantages: A colourful cheeky little film about the history of a London theatre. Disadvantages: Nothing dramatic or outstandingly fantastic!
of this film the songs would become more recognisable and therefore more enjoyable. The soundtrack is available on CD.
DVD EXTRAS/ SPECIAL FEATURES:
1. THE MAKING OF - This is a really interesting short film. Firstly we see interviews with Director Stephen Frears, the Producer Norma Hayman and Executive Producer Bob Hoskins.
Secondly we learn about the true history of THE WINDMILL THEATRE. We meet a few original 'Windmill Girls' apparently proud that they can still do the splits etc and we hear their stories! They tell what it was like to be involved in this theatre that opened the door apparently for the future English National Ballet.
This short film also has more interviews with the cast, we learn how they got on together and were chosen for the parts. We see the 'authentic look' they were after - girls not too skinny who ...
Advantages: Some good effects Disadvantages: Wife hid behind cushion for all of film ( is this a disadvantage?)
on the floor with the dead man, they both find out they are playing a "game" at the hand of the notorious JigSaw, a phsyco who has been striking for months, getting people into these situations and making them kill themselves in horrible ways.
He isn't technically a murderer, as he just sets the scene for people to mkill themselves.
The victims of the Jogsaw are always guilty of something - whether it's a drug dealer, drug taker, peadophile, rapist etc.
Lawrence and Adam have until 6pm to free themselves, before they're locked in the room to die.
With so many twists and turns, the film keeps you guessing right up until the very last minute, and even right up to the end credits there are twists and turns!
WHAT DID I THINK
I didn't find the film so mush scary but rather gruesome and very blood thristy in parts, I didn ...
