I had wanted to see this film for quite some time now so when I was able to get the DVD for a bargain price I snapped it up. I have read a few bad reviews on it but I still wanted to make my own mind up about it.
At the start of the film we meet Joy who is a very efficient business woman and has to have a plan for everything. Also we meet Jack who has just been sacked from his fathers business and is the complete opposite of Joy and loves being a slob.
As the pair are depressed as Joy has also been dumped their friend suggest that they head off to Vegas to have some fun. The two couples meet when there has been a mix up with the hotel rooms and they have been given the same room. Thy end up going out together as they have been given a load of VIP passes and when Joy and Jack start drinking things get a bit out of hand and the pair wake up to find they got married. The pair are not happy about the marriage and agree they will have it annulled but things then take a different turn when Joy gives Jack a coin to phone here with and he puts it into the slot machine and wins $3,000,000.
They return from Vegas with the intention of having the marriage annulled but they are still arguing over the money. The judge is not happy with then so he sentences them to 6 months of hard marriage to see if they can make it work.
Will they be able to stand each other for the 6 months in order to share the money or will one of them quit and leave or will they actually start to like each other?
Despite there being a lot of bad reviews on this film both me and hubby really did enjoy it. I found that Cameron Diaz played the role of Joy extremely well and so did Ashton Kutcher who played Jack. They both had a great chemistry together which came across very well on screen. There were a few supporting actors who also did a great job and the two best friends did add a lot of humour to the story.
The storyline was good and I do wonder just how many people get drunk and married in Vegas! I liked the way it was bought to the screen and how the two completely different characters were thrown together. There were a lot of funny moments in the film and I thought that when the pair were trying to get the other to cheat on them so the marriage could be over was very funny indeed. Also the scenes at the marriage councillor were usually very good and entertaining and I did like3 the addition of Queen Latifiah to the role of the councillor. The storyline was given a little bit of depth with the addition of other characters, including parents and ex lovers and I did think that these characters were needed to help the storyline.
The film was set in modern day so not much was needed to the sets and costumes and they were all very good and appropriate. I did find the music was good if not very memorable but I did think that it was all suitable for the places which t was used. I did actually enjoy some of the scenes which we had of Vegas as this is a place where I would love to visit one day.
The ending of the film was very predictable but I don’t think this changed my view of the film as it made it very easy top watch and meant I did not have to use much brain power when watching. The scene which comes just after the credits have started was a nice addition to the film and was completely unexpected and both me and hubby did have a good laugh at it.
The DVD which we have does have a bonus feature of 6 deleted scenes but we did not take the time to watch them.
The running time of the film is only 94 minutes which I found to be a great length and I think that if it was any longer then the story would have dragged and got boring. The certificate on the film is a 12 as it does contain some sex references and bad language but nothing which I found to be offensive.
We paid just under £5 for out DVD on Amazon which I thought was as good price. I am going to recommend this film as it is a light hearted comedy and good acting and a good storyline.
