This film will not be a great film, that would entice me to watch in a year or two time and laugh my head off. This movie has the show references of 'friends' and perhaps other movies that are unknown to me.
what happens in las vegas? Obvious answer in that people get drunk, they get married, and they gamble. You knew that already. Interestingly enough the film does not revolve around vegas all that much, most of the show setting is around new york.
about the film; ashton kutcher plays jack fuller who is a carpenter worker and is fired by his boss who, happens to be his dad (treat williams), for not doing his job properly. jack fullers best friend steve (rob corrdry) asks if they want to go to vegas for a fun adventure trip, as it appears they are bored. This is where jack meets cameron diaz joy who is a commodities trader on a trading market similar to the nasdaq exchange. joy who is equally frustrated and bored, is asked do go to vegas, by her best friend (lake bell) who plays tipper to do the same as joy has been left and split up by her fiance (jason sudeikis).
Early on in the film and at various intervals the film makes a number of alcoholic brand references,
and this film includes the social drinking, binge drinking and party games. So with this in mind, jack and joy meet and spend a night together. Soon afterwards joy realises she is married, and falls out with jack. jack at a slot machine venue in vegas wins three million dollars million and this is where the stories plot relies so heavily upon thereafter.
In new york a court judge (dennis miller) demands that the couple seek counselling from dr twitchell (queen latifah), and the judge freezes the three million dollar jackpot win. Any couple with this win would surely share this sum fifty fifty without any arguing. The couple must also share apartment and live together before they can see any of the capital.
Points of this film are that it combines two attractive actors and makes an attempt as being a romantic story. However it can be said that this is more comedy than romance. In terms of its comedy it borders stupid as opposed to funny. The "peeing" scene image in the sink is evidence of that. There is also the bad aspect of any divorced couple in joy's "what is mine is your's".
Here I find it hard to find such words in a film as entertaining. There are times also whereby the lead stars get embroiled in role play arguments and combine that love hate friend relationship, this part of the film provided very few laughs and made the film slightly more serious than funny.
The good parts involved the humour of the couple sharing an apartment together, joy's own look of horror at the cleanliness of jack's apartment is very amusing to watch. There was cameron diaz drinking heavily, and in dancing, falls off the edge of the Bar, only to get up off the dance floor and continue partying, with a ever so slight hint of hollywood acting pain. This I found slightly funny.
Also later in the movie there is joy's work party arranged by her boss, in which the traders from the commodity market meet together. jack introduces himself rich banger (dennis farinah) who starred in law and order and insaving private ryan, is very much liked by this very wealthy business owner. It is jack's charm that wins over banger's almost instant friendship and again this provides a good start to a slightly funny scene or two. It combines some funny lines and acts of irreverance.
The film's stage setting and the fast moving scenes from one place to the next, also the directing was done quite well, this was a truly good performance overall.
The movie has a Wafer thin plot, combining cameron diaz and ashton kutscher both attractive in screen presense. This film shows that more is needed in producing a really good film. The plot quite frankly is really thin, in that they get married after a night of debauchery, only to discover they do not get along well together.
The supporting actors, at times it appears have tried, to steal the show. In terms of comedy without giving these details away, it is the lesser actors that make pretty much more of a comedic impact than diaz, and kutscher.
the ending of the movie, the film's conclusion was too obvious, and inevitable.
All in all, I found this film relatively good and easy to watch. There was no time during the film did I think it was boring, or slow paced. However the lack of any real romance in this film made this film appear unfinished, and also the lack of real comedy fun aspect also let this movie down. The film had a run time of ninety eight minutes and has a rating of twelve adult from its own way of having these adult story based themes of undressing without nudity, the drinking, gambling, and the overall crude comedy nature included.
