What about BoB?
If you like Bill Murray you will LOVE this.. There are definitely no shortage's on the silly humour front !
Bill Murray stars as Bob Wiley the 'newly acquired 'patient of Dr Leo Marvin who is played by Academy Award winner Richard Dreyfuss (The Goodbye Girl,Best Actor,1977).
Trouble is.. Bob is kind of anxious about being left out of reach and contact of his new Dr ,Dr Marvin, as on his initial meeting - Leo Marvin drops the bomb shell that he will be heading off on his annual family vacation and advises Bob to go to the emergency room should any problems occur during his absence .
Bob is thoroughly not liking this whole situation and will do anything in order to be able to track Dr Leo in order to put his anxieties to rest. He is a very needy patient ,kind hearted and harmless enough nonetheless, however Dr Leo is somewhat arrogant and pretentious and does not have any sympathy for Bobs predicament and so heads off for is holiday without any after thoughts of Bob.
Bob proves to be quite inventive after his initial plans of getting the attention he craves from Leo don't come to anything . His efforts include a fake phone call impersonating a member of Leo Marvins family using a member of public to make the call and
after , when he is still being ignored he takes an even more drastic measure -which I feel at this point I perhaps shouldn't give away, but this ultimately leads to Bob locating the general area that the Marvin's are taking their vacation. So Bob packs a bag and puts his pet fish in a glass(jam) jar which he hangs about his neck and sets off ..........
You can imagine Dr Marvin's surprise when he spots Bob while on a trip to the local store to pick up some groceries . He is shocked and annoyed to say the least and tries to send Bob packing immediately before any of his family notice him - but as Bob has some O.C.D's and other quirks it wasn't a simple journey that he made on the bus trip there, but one that he definitely was not wanting to repeat any time soon.
Dr Marvin persuades Bob to wait in the local diner and agrees to call Bob later that afternoon . While Bob is waiting at the diner which is actually hours before the agreed time he gets chatting with the owners of the diner (the Guttmans) who at the mention of Dr Leo's name begin to cuss at his name because it emerges that after saving their whole life for the deposit on their dream home- Leo and his family had swooped in and bought the very property that the Guttmans had long dreamt of -as their 'second /holiday' home .
The Guttmans at this, have gathered that Leo does not want Bob to know the exact where abouts of his families vacation home have no hesitation in taking Bob themselves to the property and this is where the real fun begins .
Bob endears himself to all of Dr Marvin's family to Leo's huge annoyance to say the least! Bob just won't go away and it seems the more that Bob grates on Dr leo the more he becomes loved and accepted by the rest of the Marvin family .
There are a lot of memorable funny moments that once again I won't give away but they include one during a meal time where Bob has been invited on the insistence of Leo's wife and Kids, and who because of circumstances of the weather , ends up having to stay over and on the night before 'Good Morning America' are due to come and film an interview with Dr Marvin at the holiday home about his latest book release . Lets just say all doesn't go to the DR's plan and slowly as the movie progresses Dr marvin is ironically seeming to be slowly driven insane by his own psychiatric patient. I won't give away the ending of this movie as it would spoil it for those who still haven't seen the movie and there are a couple of quite unexpected twists and plots . This movie does tend to slow down it's funny fast pace towards the end of the movie but it doesn't stop it from being one of my favourite comedy films . I hold it up there with films like : Ground Hog day (also Bill Murray) planes trains and automobiles(Steve Martin and John Candy).Uncle Buck(John Candy) .Cheaper by the dozen(Steve Martin).National Lampoons Christmas Vacation(Chevvy Chase). .... to name but a few -
so if you like those types of movies I think you will love ..'What About BoB?'
