...And all the long while Ethans obsessive hatred and lust for revenge grows ever more intense. John Fords film journeys deep into the heart of Ethan Edwards darkness. He emerges from a personally unconceded war and a couple of years of highly questionable wanderings into a settled family home and a community thats moved on. Throughout the film there are resonances from a shared and sometimes secret past. Most poignantly the hopeless, impossible love ... Read review

Classic title and movie
Review of The Undefeated DVD by craftmad

Advantages: excellant viewing for a reasonable price
Disadvantages: none

This is well worth the watch. Found plenty action in this film and a few twists along the way which gave you plenty to keep your interest. The plot is portrayed very well. I can honestly say that even though this film has been on television often it was well worth having the DVD as we can watch at our leisure and it will be watched many times. It shows how after the civil war the two opposing sides can get together and help mend bridges the civil ... Read review

Never Mess with "The Duke's" Family
Review of Big Jake DVD by Rahielli

Advantages: Maureen O'Hara, Classic John Wayne Western, Exciting, Well Acted for the most part
Disadvantages: A bit more gory than most John Wayne Films, pretty typical John Wayne

...I will be reviewing. Big Jake, the film. ******************************** The Film: Big Jake Summary ******************************** A great deal of creativity and depth is not involved in this particular story. It is actually quite simple and straightforward. An outlaw gang lead by John Fain attacks the McCandles Ranch. They kill quite a few members of the hired help, shoot Jake McCandles youngest son Jeff, and kidnap his grandson Little Jake ...
...the kid and that’s where Big Jake comes in! While he and his wife Martha haven’t seen each other for 18 years (apparently they’re not on speaking terms) she knows he’s the man for the job, and the only one that can save their 8 year old grandson. Accompanying him are his other two sons James, who doesn’t much care for Big Jake, and Michael, as well as his old friend Sam Sharpnose and his ever faithful Dog. Everyone that Big Jake meets keeps saying ... Read review

A John Wayne classic.
Review of Rio Bravo DVD by Timbo3107

Advantages: It is a classic. Perfect Sunday afternoon film.
Disadvantages: Hard to believe that this was made nearly 50 years agao.

...one of my favourites is Rio Bravo. If I had to produce a top ten if films this would easily be in the top four without a doubt. ---The Plot--- Made in 1959, Rio Bravo tells the story of John T Chance. A small-town sheriff of a small town in southwest Texas must keep custody of a murderer whose brother, a powerful rancher, is trying to help him escape. After a friend is killed trying to muster support for him, the Sheriff and his deputies made up ...
...For many, Howard Hawks' Rio Bravo is the clearest exposition of his philosophy of professionalism. His tough lawman solves his own problem without going out looking for help. So he welcomes volunteers and in fact depends on them. What is more, he overcomes by displaying intelligence in the way the issue is resolved. The survivors in Hawks' philosophy are the ones who conduct themselves with the greatest degree of coolness and discipline. It is not ... Read review
