The Good, the Bad and the Ugly review
Review of The Good Bad And The Ugly DVD by Walter_Kovacs

Advantages: Well written, well acted, incredible finale
Disadvantages: May be a bit long for some people

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly stars Clint Eastwood as Blondie, a professional gunslinger out trying to make a few bucks. Angel Eyes is a hit man who always sees his job through, as long as he is paid. And Tuco, a wanted outlaw only out for himself. These three find out about a stash of gold buried in a cemetery, and must battle it out with each other to see who gets it. This is truly an epic film in every sense of the word. Fantastic sprawling ...
...were in, and the music reflects that. Aside from the classic opening tune, it's very minimalistic, sometimes only the wind howling being the only thing on the soundtrack. Occasionally you get a gentle strum on the guitar, and a lone trumpet, which really reflects the loneliness and the vastness between neighboring towns, where people traveling could spend weeks alone before seeing anyone else. The script is well written, with lots of suspense and ... Read review

3:10 To Yuma Review
Review of 3:10 To Yuma DVD by hemingwaypia

Advantages: you see for yourself
Disadvantages: you see for yourself

...Even more so given that 3:10 to Yuma stars Russell Crowe (Ben Wade) and Christian Bale (Dan Evans). Yes, I am kidding you not. The performances of these two gifted actors should be enough reason for you to watch this. Their tandem is not exactly like Jacky Chan and Chris Tucker in Rush Hour franchise or between John Travolta and Nicolas Cage in Face/Off. Crowe and Bale neither tease each other so that the other could deliver the punch lines nor they ...
...of pistol shoot-outs. I think 3:10 to Yuma tries to stick to the elements of what a genuine Western is: great action, default and notorious characters and, of course, the rough Wild West setting. It's amusing! The title relates to the time (3:10PM) and place (Yuma prison in Arizona) that Ben Wade, a legendary robbery gang leader, should be executed for his endless crimes. The problem is: who will bring Wade to Yuma at that exact time? Dan Evans, ... Read review

Heat in the Wild west.
Review of The Wild Bunch DVD by thegoldencat

Advantages: A superlative mix of visceral violence and affecting themes.
Disadvantages: It makes other westerns look bad.

...parade and seemingly we're watching the beginning of a dull and dreary Sunday morning western. But then... BOOM! All freaking hell breaks loose. What was once an innocent little outback town quickly turns into a hellish warzone with gunfire zipping and cracking all around. Every rifle round resembles a resounding cannon shot as panic descends and chaos reigns. No one is spared amidst the confusion of the proceeding bloody gunfight. This is no clean-cut ...
...likely to find. As the mist descends the plot begins to take form. Pike Bishop (William Holden) leads what remains of his group of outlaws out of the melieu and Deke Thornton (Robert Ryan) is left to curse his own squad for letting the leader and primary members escape. Pike and Deke are old comrades but times change and now Dekes going straight, hunting his former friend for the Railroad company who want him dead for robbing their trains. And ... Read review

Me, write a bad review? That'll be the day.
Review of The Searchers DVD by thegoldencat

Advantages: A solid western with a good lead performance by John Wayne.
Disadvantages: In many ways dated and showing its age in terms of techniques and attitudes.

Overview The Searchers is a classic western starring John Wayne and directed by John Ford. It is regarded very highly both as an example of the Western genre and as a film in general attaining classic status in more recent times despite a less enthusiastic reception upon its initial release in1956. Plot This is very much a rescue and revenge tale. We follow the unconventional hero Ethan Edwards and his eventual companion Martin Pawley in a long ...
...group but they alone go the distance and are willing to see it through to the end, however long that takes. Martin Pawley leaves the woman he loves behind and their to-in and fro-ing though occaissionally irritating provides the emotional base of the film. John Wayne Not being a massive John Wayne film myself I am always somewhat perturbed by his presence in a film for it immediately becomes a John Wayne film almost, a seperate genre in itself. ... Costner + Gun fights = Perfect Film!
Review of Open Range DVD by sewbizzie

Advantages: Costner, great story, very well acted
Disadvantages: May be too long for some

Open Range is another of my bargain buys and this time I was very impressed, not only with the fact that Kevin Costner is in the film but it was also a good film to watch. The film stars Boss, played by Robert Duval, Charlie, played by Kevin Costner, Buttons and Mose who are free grazers and spend their time travelling around letting their cattle graze off other peoples land. When they arrive in a particular town the trouble starts. Boss sends Mose ...
