eastwood at his best
Review of Unforgiven DVD by
worth_a_read
Advantages: great story. great acting
Disadvantages: none i know of
...was invincible, so when the unforgiven begins and you see Mr Eastwood as a run down pig farmer, to me it was an unwelcome shock. As the film develops though you understand that it is a very necessary part of the film. The movie is packed with stars including Gene Hackman and Morgan freeman, each and every one of them giving an outstanding performance. I have watched this film over and over. I'm not going to describe the whole film scene by scene. ...

Pale Rider (actually Quite-Well-Tanned Rider)
Review of Pale Rider DVD by
blue.summer.sky
Advantages: Clint Eastwood fitting his character wonderfully.
Disadvantages: Not much in the way of surprises in the plot.
...slow and consequently boring.
Pale Rider is rather a western that should still appeal to lovers of the aforementioned films, but also those who prefer a more obvious plot and their idea of action and drama aren't tense stand-offs before a gunfight. The film begins with a small community of gold-prospectors who are being terrorised by a more wealthy and industrial group of prospectors (which, if there is one particular message from the film, probably ... ...when it's coming generally).
Pale Rider lacks some of the mystery and intrigue of For a Fistful of Dollars (etc), but packs in a decent amount of plot which is entertaining the whole way through. The other characters are all likeable too (except the ones you're not supposed to like, of course). Being well cast, you remember the lesser characters almost as much as Eastwood and each one has an important role to play in the story.
One other thing ...

Do hero's really wear white hats?
Review of High Plains Drifter DVD by
Blackcat01
Advantages: The perfect western
Disadvantages: none
High Plains Drifter is a classic western. It has a strong lead character who is the classic gunfighter, cold, emotionless and completely ruthless. It also has a strong supporting cast who again play the classic western towns people, scared, self promoting, submissive and equally ruthless in a passive way, all the classic ingredients. So why is this western so very different to anything else that came before it and after it?
In the old days, westerns ... ...used to great effect with High Plains Drifter, however, he took it a stage further and made the audience enter nthe movie in a way unseen before. He made us think about the characters and make our own opinions about them, never more so than with his main character, the stranger, it was as though you were a person living in the town of Lago and like the townsfolk, you knew nothing about the stranger who came to the town other than what you saw. This ...

Best western ever
Review of Unforgiven (Special Edition) by
michael1975
Advantages: The best western ever
Disadvantages: Alittle slow in places
Without doubt I can say this is the best western I have ever seen, Not only does it paint what I would think is a accurate portrail of life in the west but it is also done in beautiful and sometimes thought provoking way. Clint eastwood not only stars but directs and what a job he does in both roles. He paints a picture of a aging gunslinger who needs money to bring up his two kids. Wondering if he has what it takes at his age and without the help ...

Dying ain't much of a living
Review of The Outlaw Josey Wales (Wide Screen) by
donf18
Advantages: Great film, some great oneliners, and of course Clint
Disadvantages: It has to end
...do you do? You join the hold outs and seek revenge.
This film is probably my favourite Eastwood movie, it's set toward the end of the American Civil War, when life was hard for those left with nothing. Rebel group's rode through the country raping and pillaging, leaving devastation and heartache in their trail. Many who had not taken part in the war were left to seek their vengeance, these men were the Holdouts. Certain unscrupulous Army Officers ... ...his wife and son to the Redlegs and rode with the Holdouts. An amnesty was offered by the Army and most of the Holdouts headed to their camp to accept its conditions. As it turns out it was a trap and most of them were brutally slaughtered. Josey had not gone to take up the offer but was nearby as the slaughter began. He rode like the wind to help his friends. Josey kills most of the Armies forces and escapes.
One time Holdout and now working for ...
