A brilliant biographical film

Advantages: extremely accurate
Disadvantages: early years of Wyatt Earp feel a touch rushed

...accurately on the story of Wyatt Berry Stapp Earp. Born March 19th 1848. Wyatt would come to spend his adult years during the wildest period of the frontier. Wyatt Earp became legendary as a lawman, and his greatest feats are being the man to clean up Dodge City {One of the most violent frontier towns in the wild west} and for the Gunfight at the O.K Corral in Tombstone, Arizona. This film came out a touch later than the fantastic Tombstone starring ...
...purchased it on DVD. Wyatt Earp is a lenghty movie, but needs to be, to get as much information across as possible about the man. Initially the film starts with Wyatt Earp Played by Kevin costner, just verging on adulthood. His father is played by another fantastic actor, Gene Hackman. Here the seeds are sown for the man Wyatt would be, by his father who preaches things like nothing matters more important than blood {meaning family} and if you ever ...

Costner + Gun fights = Perfect Film!

Advantages: Costner, great story, very well acted
Disadvantages: May be too long for some

Open Range is another of my bargain buys and this time I was very impressed, not only with the fact that Kevin Costner is in the film but it was also a good film to watch. The film stars Boss, played by Robert Duval, Charlie, played by Kevin Costner, Buttons and Mose who are free grazers and spend their time travelling around letting their cattle graze off other peoples land. When they arrive in a particular town the trouble starts. Boss sends Mose ...

My husband did sit and watch all of these as he is interested in history but I found them to be a bit boring after watching such a good action ...

Where's The Dog?

Advantages: First epic Western for years!
Disadvantages: There should have been a sequel!

...In fact this is where Silverado made its money; the film was given such a glowing reviews that the rental markets started to see its first straight to VHS success story, really it is a shame as this film would look perfect on the big screen. Strangely the last line said by Costner's character is "We'll be back!" A sequel was planned and for a lot of people would have been strongly welcomed, unfortunately everyone involved in the film went on to other ...
...soon became apparent that it was not going to be possible to bring a second chapter to the screen. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this as it was one of the first Westerns that actually got me into what was then called 'cowboy films' and given the fact that my parents had to wait three weeks to rent a copy shows how big a thing this actually was. This is also a film that appeals across the sexes and is not a boys own adventure at all. The studios picked ...

An epic tale of the American West

Advantages: interesting story
Disadvantages: the love story part

WHAT IS IT ABOUT: Kevin Costner stars as Lt John Dunbar, a hero of the American Civil War who travels to his new post on the Western frontier. At first an emotionless, up tight soldier, things soon change as he begins to interact with a tribe of Sioux Indians, causing him to re-evaluate his loyalties. WAS IT ANY GOOD: I just re-watched this last night, and have to say I still enjoyed it just as much as I did when it came out in 1990. Costner plays ...
...all play into his strengths and he does a good job. Ironically, Dunbar in the first hour is a very unlikable guy - a nerd, a workaholic, a goody goody who can't relax or have fun, and although this is used to show the extent of his later changes, it's funny to quite dislike the hero of a film for the first half. The movie was trying to be profound and I don't think it quite reached that - Costner's soundbite narration over the top is often naïve ...

Disadvantages: on a long time

The special edition box set, is well presented and stylish, and has many more features hence the the 3rd disc, including a making of feature, music scores to the film and a gallery of photo stills from the film. It portrays a lieutenant (Kevin Costner) caught up in the American civil war, who is tired of fighting and wants to see the American frontier before its gone. ...an act of courage and he is given an assignment of his choosing. Of course, he ends up in a remote fort on the frontier and meets the local Native American Sioux tribe who are his only neighbours. There are several funny moments when he tries to communicate with the Sioux, who he befriends, and falls in love with a white woman raised by the tribe.
