get it you will love it

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

Loved this series. Cowboy films never used to be like this. The music, the characters and the action are all superb. After watching the first two episodes you will be hooked. Western fun warts and all! The final episode leaves you wanting more. So thank god for season 2 and 3 I cannot recommend this series highly enough, for a few pounds you can spend hours enjoying this series. Unlike many TV series it bears repeat viewing, the characters are quite ...
..."adult TV" experience. The best way to see this series is on DVD, apart from the quality and extras if it was a book it would be a page turner, as soon as one episode finishes you have to see the next one. The language is outrageously profane, something which I personally enjoyed but I can uderstand some people would be offended by, don't watch with your kids (it will embarass them) or with your parents (it will embarass you). ...

A Slow Burning Western

Advantages: Script, direction, cinematography, Danny Huston
Disadvantages: Ray Winstone and John Hurt, well.... Hurt.

The Proposition is a star cast led Western set in Australia in 1880's. It's about a gang of 3 lawless brothers on the run for rape and murder. Two get caught and handed over to Capt. Stanley (Ray Winstone). Brother Charlie (Guy Pearce) is practical and brother Mikey is a childish simpleton. Stanley wants to capture the third brother Arthur (Danny Huston) as he is the most dangerous and wanted of the 3 so offers a deal to Charlie. If he finds and ...
...Charlie sets out to do the deed unsure whether he can see it through. This is an incredibly bloody film which on the whole works well but is let down by some performances. It is superbly directed by John Hillcoat who together with writer Nick Cave have created a vision of true menace and lawlessness. The cinematography is superb too and with many beautiful panoramic scenescapes of the Australian outback. In terms of performances, Danny Huston is ...

East meets West....... and they actually get along

Advantages: Interesting plot, strong performances
Disadvantages: may be overlooked for more modern made westerns

East meets west in a spectacular clash of gunfire and steel. This movie stars Toshiro Mifune {Seven Samurai, Yojimbo} who once again plays the part of a samurai extremely well, and Charles Bronson {Once Upon a Time in the West, Magnificent Seven, and Death Wish 1-4} who is extremely well experienced in western movies. Cast: ~~~~ Charles Bronson, Toshiro Mifune, Alain Delon, Ursula Andress. Broson plays Link, who is a member of an outlaw gang led ...
...one of the train carriages there happens to be two Samurai's {One Mifune} guarding a treasure, a very ornate, jewel encrusted Katana {Samurai Sword}. This sword is to be a gift to the American president from the emperor of Japan. In the hold up, Mifune's fellow Samurai is killed attempting to protect the sword. However, after the robbery Link is double crossed by Gauche and his gang and left un-armed to the mercy of Kuroda, played by Mifune. Link ...

North To Alaska

Advantages: Two big starts doing comedy
Disadvantages: Can be slow in some places

I saw the last 20 minutes of this comedy when it was on TV. I went out and bought the DVD as I have never seen this the whole way through. Glad I did. When watching this film through from start to finish you do get a sense of awe in respects of the production values and the big sets that were used in production. Scenes like the boarding of the ship, the logger contest and the town street scenes all have dozens of extras to fill the screen. Something ...
...computer as a cost saving. The plot is that Stewart Granger plays George Pratt and John Wayne plays Sam McCord with Fabian playing George's brother Billy. Grainger and Wayne are partners, totally 50/50 on everything. They own a mine in Alaska and have hit the big time with the gold rush happening around the turn of the century. As McCord is off to Seattle to source mining machinery and George asks Sam to bring back the love of his life, Jenny who ...

DON'T CALL ME BAMBINO!

Advantages: Great slapstick comedy with the appeal of the Spaghetti westerns
Disadvantages: Dubbing

...was that these were comedies. They Call Me Trinity (1970) and Trinity is Still My Name (1974) were still recognisably spaghetti westerns but the violence was replaced by slapstick and the heroes were comedic parodies of the classic characters like 'The lone Gunslinger' or 'the man with no name'. When released these films were huge box office successes and broke many box office records worldwide. As previous spaghetti western these were made primarily ...
...Harriman. THE FILMS They Call Me Trinity (1970) Trinity a sort of hobo gunslinger turned bounty hunter rides into a small town only to find his brother Bambino as the sheriff. Of course his brother is not a real sheriff but an outlaw who broke the real sheriff's leg leaving him for dead and took over his identity in order to hide out from the law. He also has an eye of rustling the local landowner horse before he leaves and isn't keen on having ...
