Lancaster plays Judge Dredd, Western style.
Advantages: A movie ahead of it's time Disadvantages: None
LAWMAN- A Review By Addy
"He gave the West justice right up to its neck…then rammed more down its throat."
This is a deep action packed Western that in my opinion is aimed directly at adults due to understand the complexities of the characters. Do not let the fact this movie came out in 1971 deter you because this is no Randolph Scott style dandy Western movie. This film comes with a 15 certification, and this is probably largely due to the blood ... ...a dispersal of blood shooting into the air. One other scene see's a guy sitting on the floor placing a 45 colt under his jaw and squeezing the trigger. The result of this is crimson blood gushing out and saturating his shirt. The gunfights may be a tad graphic but I believe it is in keeping with the whole intension of the film in creating a mature, gritty, realistic, authentic Western. Also may I stress that whilst there is blood etc it is not what ...

Ultimate Cult Movie
Advantages: One of a kind. Weird and Surrealist. Undergound Disadvantages: Graphic sexual violence. Animal cruelty. Confusing plot.
El Topo is a psychedelic, surrealist, muti-leveled, psuedo western. It was filmed in the late sixties by Chilean maverick Alejendro Jodorowsky who is notorious for never getting films made. If you are a fan of weird and wonderful cult cinema then hold your breath because this film is for you! Fistful of dollars this is not!
I first heard about El Topo in the eighties, John Lennon and Dennis Hopper claimed it was their favorite film. It earned this ... ...film! After some initial weirdness El Topo is sent to kill four masters to prove his worth. One master is an armless man with a legless man on his back, another master is kind of like jesus and lives in a hut. There is plenty of bloody gunfight action inbetween theological discussions (the effects were done by the crew who did the shootout at the end of 'The Wildbunch'). Towards the end it starts to turn into a bizzare version of Tod Browning's Freaks. ...

Hard time for Harrison
Advantages: great 1970's Western Disadvantages: i dont understand Sioux
...with no more respect than a wild animal, and badly treated and beaten, eventually given to a squaw to use as a workhorse. Hence the title ' A Man name Horse'.
John befriends another lost sole Batise, who was also captured by the Indians some 5 years earlier, and who is treated in a similar manner.
Batise has come to learn the Sioux language, and is able to help John learn and survive, together they plot there escape.
But as John comes to learn ... ...potential viewers, but the is a superb western,
The effects when John is put through a tortures initiation ceremony are cringing to say the least,
Most of the language is spoken in Sioux, but this doesn't detract anything from the film, if anything improves the realism.
The director also seems to have got it right, the brutal manner and portrayal of their laws and practises gives you an understanding into the lives and ways of the Indians.
Richard ...
