eastwood at his best
Review of Unforgiven DVD by
worth_a_read
Advantages: great story. great acting
Disadvantages: none i know of
...was invincible, so when the unforgiven begins and you see Mr Eastwood as a run down pig farmer, to me it was an unwelcome shock. As the film develops though you understand that it is a very necessary part of the film. The movie is packed with stars including Gene Hackman and Morgan freeman, each and every one of them giving an outstanding performance. I have watched this film over and over. I'm not going to describe the whole film scene by scene. ...

one of the best
Review of For A Few Dollars More (Wide Screen) by
slamdaduncan
Advantages: great movie, clint eastwood
Disadvantages: 15 certificate
Plenty of people I know who have watched the film disagree with me that it is one of the best western films made.I totally disagree this film sequels a fist full of dollars,of which is also one of the best around of its time.
The sequel has been branded unneccesary and downgrades the 1st film but if the film had not been produced the first would not of had the same affect as it did.
Clint Eastwood is at his peak in both the films and so is the ... ...i know that he is a star.the theme in both films is incredible and i am told that there are other films that have been based on the same theme to try and get money and more viewers but since the two fabulous westerns came out no film has continued with the success that they did.
Altogether a great watch ...

a fistfull of dolars (widescreen)
Review of A Fistful Of Dollars (Wide Screen) by
name47
Advantages: original format
Disadvantages: letterbox size
The first proper spaghetti Western, A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS follows a nameless drifter who plays two feuding families off each other to his own reward. As members of each family are put in the ground, the stash in his pockets gets heavier and heavier. this violent remake of akira kurosawa's joyimbo made clint eastwood a star and not before time. this is one of leone's first outings as director, who later went on to direct the masterpiece once upon a ...

Pale Rider (actually Quite-Well-Tanned Rider)
Review of Pale Rider DVD by
blue.summer.sky
Advantages: Clint Eastwood fitting his character wonderfully.
Disadvantages: Not much in the way of surprises in the plot.
...slow and consequently boring.
Pale Rider is rather a western that should still appeal to lovers of the aforementioned films, but also those who prefer a more obvious plot and their idea of action and drama aren't tense stand-offs before a gunfight. The film begins with a small community of gold-prospectors who are being terrorised by a more wealthy and industrial group of prospectors (which, if there is one particular message from the film, probably ... ...when it's coming generally).
Pale Rider lacks some of the mystery and intrigue of For a Fistful of Dollars (etc), but packs in a decent amount of plot which is entertaining the whole way through. The other characters are all likeable too (except the ones you're not supposed to like, of course). Being well cast, you remember the lesser characters almost as much as Eastwood and each one has an important role to play in the story.
One other thing ...

Best western ever
Review of Unforgiven (Special Edition) by
michael1975
Advantages: The best western ever
Disadvantages: Alittle slow in places
Without doubt I can say this is the best western I have ever seen, Not only does it paint what I would think is a accurate portrail of life in the west but it is also done in beautiful and sometimes thought provoking way. Clint eastwood not only stars but directs and what a job he does in both roles. He paints a picture of a aging gunslinger who needs money to bring up his two kids. Wondering if he has what it takes at his age and without the help ...
