When worlds collide.
Review of Dances With Wolves DVD by steerpyke

Advantages: A refreshing portrayal of the American west
Disadvantages: a long film

...to be given Kevin Costners Dances With Wolves. The story is straight forward, Costner plays John Dunbar, a lieutenant in the Cival War who is rewarded for an act of heroism with the posting of his choice. Jaded of the decadance of the officer elite of the army and desperate to see the fast disappearing frontier he takes a position in an isolated frontier fort. When he gets there it is desserted, but true to his orders he repairs the place and waits ...
...glorify the white hero. In Dances with Wolves, they are as filled out and have as much depth as any of the other parts, their ways, lives, loves and fears are played with reality and humour, with honest and insight and for the first time we see the other side of the coin. The interactions between Dunbar and the Sioux are well thought out, these are meant to be two races that have no experience of each other, and as such are cautious and curious of ... Read review

Not to be missed
Review of Deadwood - Series 1 - Complete DVD by colin_worldcup

Advantages: Great entertainment.
Disadvantages: Too addictive!

...previously only flicked over to Deadwood when it was on the TV be it waiting for something else to start or during breaks I had obviously struggled to pick up what was going on. However after buying season 1 (for £15-bargain!) I found myself asking why I had been so stupid as not to have watched any of the 3 season run previously! As I don't believe in giving strorylines away I won't touch on that side of things, If you are interested and act on ... Read review

Nothing like Clint Eastwood
Review of 3:10 To Yuma DVD by galatico1

Advantages: Shoot out scenes
Disadvantages: Not a great role for Russell Crowe

A un-realistic close bond which is created between these unfamiliar foes, which blossoms throughout the film at least adds something different to ...
...and mouse chase between Russell Crowe's gang and Christian Bale, make out for a ending which was to be expected by many of the viewers, after both actors successfulness, this film is a step back in their amazing line up to films in which they have acted and will hope to forget and move on. ... Peckinpah's brutal vision sees the light of day
Review of Pat Garrett And Billy The Kid (Special Edition) by martyn73

Advantages: see the film the way it was meant to be seen
Disadvantages: none

...look at the legend of Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. Released in this new form it adds extra scenes which give more character study although in places it does seem like there are still parts missing. Nevertheless it is a beautifully shot film which due to the subject matter has a sense of inevitable doom about it. The violence that is so much a part of Peckinpah's films is here in its full glory serving to show the true brutality of the Old West. ... Read review
