The seven West Wing series evolved over time but remained stimulating, witty and hugely enjoyable. There were rumours over the years that the quality of this dream insider view of a liberal Whitehouse administration would deteriorate when creator Aaron Sorkin departed, but it didn't, the writing remained razor sharp throughout. Brilliant scriptwriting and a fabulous cast mean that the characters stay with you, CJ Craig, Jed Bartlett, Josh Lyman et al get under your skin and stay there, over time well loved characters left or changed jobs but if you stuck with them there was a continuous great payoff, the show challenged what you thought about a host of issues along the way such as separation of church and state and how a liberal leadership addresses national and international crises and the nature of political power itself and it always provided exceptional entertainment with the ability to move you to laughter or tears and to leave you thinking....

I thought this was an excellent review. I have watched the whole 7 series over the last few months since I got his for Xmas. The review would very much have helped me at the time. Having all of the series and going through them almost lets you feel as though you are actually in the lives of Josh, Toby, Donna, CJ, POTUS et al.
Yes there are additional behind the scenes material with the DVD version, not sure if this is available on VHS anyway.
Excellent set of DVD's and good review!

I see you've posted this as a DVD review, but you've not mentioned the DVD. Are there any extras? If so, what are they and are they any good? If you add to this, or if you change it to be posted as a "Film Only" review, which can be done by accessing "edit review" above the review and changing the drop down menu under the "Which format are you reviewing?" question at the bottom, please let me know and I'll re-rate.
