In the hope of a good finish I stayed until the end, but that only confirmed the mediocrity of the film. Time after time punch lines were missing or edited/delivered badly. Potentially comedic moments just didn't project onto the audience. --- SYNOPSIS --- This movie tries to make fun of Hollywood films of British history which ultimately get re-written by Hollywood (see quote at bottom). Advantages: Brilliant Cast

...Based on Jack Higgins bestselling World War 2 novel this film (released in 1976) follows the story of a secret mission by a small group of German Paratroopers whose mission was to drop into England and kidnapp Winston Churchill. The story is set in lae November 1943 as the Nazi's realise the tide of the war has turned. Hitler is growing more and more frustrated and wants results immediately. Out of a desperate suggestion the idea is born to go in and kidnapp Churchill while he is in the English countryside for a weekend, thus showing the German might and putting them in a better position for negotiation. The idea is labelled as fantasy by the high ranking Germans, all except Colonel Maximillian Radl (Robert Duvall) who puts togther a workable plan which Himmler (Donald Pleasance) approves of. ...to Brodericks uncomfortable position of superiority. Denzil Washington and Morgan Freeman play the two sides of the black argument, the former fighting for his own reasons, the later because its the first time hes been part of anything that he considers worthy. He believes that he is fighting to change the world he will eventually inherit. It is these moral arguments polarized by the main characters that is the real point of the movie. Their story is based on true events and follows their struggle against the prejudice of their own military leaders, to be able to prove themselves as equals to any of the white soldiers. Through determination they begin to break down the barriers and finally get to prove themselves in the thick of the fighting.
